Group DescriptionBlack and White photographs rendered in accordance to the zone system as established by Ansel Adams. Generally, these photos will have compositional areas defined by different shades of gray.
Dark black and bright white are typically present to some degree, but unlike the typical photograph, these extreme areas are carefully managed so they hold detail and texture.
It's called the zone system because a zone system photographer sees any given gray value as belonging to one of nine zones. Zone one is black, zone nine is white, and zone five is medium gray.
