How many images can I submit?
One photo/entry per person only, and photo must have been uploaded after Jan 1, 2018.

Who’s judging Your Best Shot?
We’ve invited a select panel of five photographers from the Flickr community, and have appointed two in-house judges to select the winning images.

How are you selecting the winners?
Rating criteria is based on 1) originality, 2) creativity, 3) technical skill
Each community judge will select 10 finalists to submit to the in-house panel. The two in-house panel judges will select the five winners. Finalists’ names and locations will be concealed to avoid implicit bias.

How many winners will there be?
Five (5) winners will be selected based on originality, creativity, and skill by SmugMug Inc. appointed photography professionals of the Flickr community. Winners will each be gifted a Peak Design bag and a SmugMug Pro account.

How do I participate in the contest?
To enter, join the Your Best Shot 2018 group and submit your entry. One photo/entry per person only, and photo must have been uploaded after Jan 1, 2018. You may only submit an image that you have taken yourself, and you must have all necessary rights to the photo to submit it here. For more details, please read the Contest Official Rules

***Please note: for your photo to qualify as an official submission for the contest, make sure you add it to the photo pool. Images that are embedded in threads but not in the actual pool won't qualify as submissions.***

Thanks for the clarification, I didn't see that the pool wasn't open quite yet...I thought everyone was just being shy and didn't want to be the first to post ;-)

2. Below the image, click Add to group.
3. Select Your Best Shot 2018 (you need to be a member/join the group first)

Hi Angel - the rules state they must have been uploaded after Jan 1, 2018 - see exact sentence from rules copied and pasted below, as well as the link to the rules where I copied from (2nd paragraph, under "How to Enter:"

One photo/entry per person only, and photo must have been uploaded after Jan 1, 2018.

www.flickr.com/groups/yourbestshot2018/discuss/7215767615...

Also, the Group Descriptions on this group's landing page reiterates this in the first paragraph:

It’s finally here, what you’ve been waiting for all year: Your Best Shot 2018! We’re accepting submissions between December 1, 2018 and January 7, 2019. Keep in mind, you may only submit one photo that was uploaded in 2018, so take your time to find your favorite shot. Five awesome winners, chosen by Flickr staff, will receive a Peak Design bag and a SmugMug Pro subscription.

So...I think you're good to go!

Hello Darren. I thank you for your reply but I'm sorry I still do not understand. I use a translator because my English is really very poor. "Uploaded" in 2018 means posted on Flickr in 2018 (This is the case of my photo) but it does not say if the photo may have been taken before 2018.
I feel ashamed and ridiculous not to understand. So please just answer (yes or no) to my question. Can i participate with a photo taken in 2017 and posted on Flickr in 2018.

Thx to you. Greetings

AD :)

It's there :-)

If you look at your photo page: www.flickr.com/photos/88793679@N06/44148960024/

Scroll below the photo and look to the right. It says "This photo is in 21 Groups" and lists the groups it's in.

If you ever want to find all of your own photos in ANY pool, you can do it with this magic URL:

www.flickr.com/groups/GROUPNAME/pool/me

So for this group it would be:
www.flickr.com/groups/yourbestshot2018/pool/me

The GROUPNAME is the part from the group URL that is the name of the group. Some groups don't have names, in which case you have to use the group ID number, which makes it look something like this:
www.flickr.com/groups/1621376@N22/pool/me

Can moderators of this group kindly look into this?

Yes, it's fine to re-enter a photo that you deleted accidentally.

May I ask why the prize is for a SmugMug account instead of a Flickr Pro? I mean, it's like Google organizing a contest and giving Dropbox pro account as an award. Pretty hilarious if you ask me :))
Fabian Fortmann 5 months ago
Victor Stan:

It's more like google giving you a YouTube Premium account or smth like that since Flickr is owned by SmugMug.
But nevertheless you are right, it's quite stupid.
Maybe they try to shift people from Flickr to SmugMug in the long term but I don't know much about their strategy...

Hi,

can I add my contest photo to another group on Flickr?

Thanks
admin
mag3737 5 months ago
fadingbeat:

Yes, you can add your photo from Your Best Shot into other group(s), as long as they don't have any rules that would conflict with the rules of Your Best Shot. The only possible conflict I can think of would be if the other group has a rule saying "You cannot add your photos to any other groups."

Awesome! Just wondering how to upload a pic from camera roll
marylee.agnew 5 months ago
Can I delete the image I entered and replace it?
admin
mag3737 5 months ago
marylee.agnew:

It is perfectly OK to change your mind about your best shot, remove it, and add a different photo to the pool.

However:

It is not OK to do this repeatedly. The Your Best Shot 2018 group is meant for you to share one photo with the world, not to share a new photo every day or every few days. If we notice you changing your photo multiple times, you (and your photo) may be removed from the group.

Also, it is not OK to repeatedly remove and re-add the same photo to the pool. This practice is unfair to other members. If we notice you reposting your photo multiple times, you (and your photo) may be removed from the group.

Will the winning photos be posted anywhere? I don't see the winners from the previous years' contests. Perhaps you should create a group or link showing the "best of" each year.
Thanks.

This year is the first time there has been a contest. There were no "winners" from any previous years.

In previous years, some images were selected and shared in galleries and blogs by people including some "official" on Flickr. That is already true this year, too. For example:

Yes, the winning photos will be posted in the Flickr Blog, Flickr galleries, social media channels, etc. The winners will be notified by SmugMug Inc. on or about January 22, 2019.

We're also curating submissions and sharing themed galleries here: www.flickr.com/photos/flickr/galleries

As Tom said above, this is the first year we are giving prizes.

I’m not sure how to upload a photo for this contest. Can someone help?
chasdobie Posted 4 months ago. Edited by Leticia Roncero (admin) 4 months ago
pedro.guererro.1:

Display the photo in your web browser and copy the url (internet address) of the photo showing at the top of your browser. Then start a message here and write what you want. Then, to generate the photo paste the address you copied between two square brackets [like this]. Then hit "Preview" to make sure it worked., etc.

1. Find the photo you want to add. (Make sure it is one from 2018.)
2. On the photo page, look below, right hand side, find "Add to group" (and click it).
3. Find "Your Best Shot 2018" in the list (and click it).
Hi in the future may I change the date of upload to 2019?

Your photo needs to be added to the official photo pool in order to qualify for the contest. Photos embedded in threads don't count as submissions.

Is it possible that you posted your photo in one of the (many) discussion threads with names like "Your best (somethingsomething) shot of 2019"? It seems like those many threads confused some people into thinking that they were for contest entries. Unfortunately, photos in those threads are NOT entered into the contest. They are only for fun (and a way to share more than one of your photos with people).

The only photo that counts for the contest is the one that is added to the group pool (each person can only have one of those).

We are going to try to make these rules more clear next year!
Baker_1000 4 months ago
When will the winners be announced? If they are at all. I know my entry has very, very little chance of being one of them, but I would like to see which ones won all the same.
admin
Darren LoPrinzi 4 months ago
From the Contest Rules sticky thread:

SELECTION OF WINNERS: Five (5) winners will be selected based on originality, creativity, and skill by SmugMug Inc. appointed photography professionals of the Flickr community. The winners will be notified by SmugMug Inc. on or about January 22, 2019. Incomplete entries will not be accepted. The number of eligible entries will determine the odds of winning. Sponsor is not obligated to leave voice mail, answering machine, or other messages. In Sponsor’s sole discretion, a selected winner may be required to forfeit a prize and an alternate winner may be selected in accordance with these Official Rules from among the remaining eligible entries for that prize if selected winner (i) is unreachable, (ii) declines or cannot accept, receive or use the prize for any reason, or (iii) fails to comply with these Official Rules.
