Hi all,

I am moving to Chicago from NYC in a month. While I have lived in Chicago before, I did not start printing my own photographs until I had moved away, and while I love the city, I'm a little worried I won't be able to find quite the wealth of resources I had here. So, if anyone can help me out...!

I am looking to find darkrooms and digital labs with high quality printers where I could make prints myself, some sort of place where you could rent facilities or become a member to use them. I'm particularly interested in finding a place with large digital printers or plotters that I could use to print large scale images. it's important to me that I do the printing myself, so I don't want to outsource. And I can't afford my own printer at the moment!

Any advice is much appreciated. If you've spent time in NYC I'm looking for a place similar to the International Center of Photography, but I have no idea what's out there.

I hear you and am dealing with that exact issue/need. A group of photographers and past students of Columbia College and SAIC along with myself (an established digital printmaker and owner of Black Point Editions) are in the process of creating a full-fledged, high-end community digital lab in Chicago. We are following a LightWork, PPAC, ICP model. Stay tuned. :)
