Group DescriptionThe old must be torn down for the new to build up. Nooks and crannies are destroyed and new ones are formed. This happens everywhere, but in a city like ours; it all happens at once. No proper sequence is respected.
This group is about documentary investigation of our perpetual chaotic maelstrom of change. It's about the nooks and crannies being destroyed, and the new ones being built up.
Though we welcome photographic masterpieces (and you will see many in the pool), our focus is on people who go out to the undocumented areas and subcultures of the five boroughs and beyond; and report back to us on what they experience.
What kinds of photos/videos should you contribute?:
Everything that's weird, in New York and surrounding areas. If either aspect is not evident in the frame of your photo, please include a little explanation about what strikes you as weird and/or New York about it. We're curious!
As for celebratory: In most cases we are celebrating our subjects, other times we are shining a light on the darker side of the weird, and celebrating the photographer who does so.
Taking back the streets, guerrilla theater, non-typical graffiti, abandonment, counter-culture characters, black market economy, effects of the recession, rarely visited corners of our cities, urban legends, gang fights, street corner prophets, and more.
Let's show the vanishing faces of New York, human and otherwise, while we still can. And let's show that countercultures spring up even as others are dying, and focus on some of the dynamic efforts at renewal going on around us every day.
