Weekend Project “People and Phones” 25th March – 8th April 2016

The Weekend Project reboot begins with “People and Phones”. Like me it’s devilishly simple. All we ask is that you take a photo which contains people (or person singular) and a phone (or phones plural), or recognisable parts thereof. A finger or a 1000 people, 1000 phones or the volume button on your smartphone, it's up to you.

You can hit the street and catch Joe and Joanne Public being all interconnected. You can take that shop window selfie you’ve always dreamed of taking or seek out some forgotten old tech while antiquing. Always wanted to create an artistic masterpiece that lays bare our modern obsession with hand held communication technology? This is your chance. People and phones, phones and people. Either way works.

As always, the point of a Utata project is to create new works of art. You can, however, tag one archival image. You may also tag up to five new images. Please feel free to post TWO small sized photographs in this thread, one new and one archival image.
tag your images utata:project=peopleandphones

Before I let you go, on behalf of Sonya, Martin, Sam and myself, I’d like to offer a big vote of thanks to Patrick who put so much effort into this project series for so long. If we can be half as good as you, we’ll be twice as good as we’ve any right to be. Cheers mate!

I might see if my mom will let me take her photo this weekend. She loves talking on the phone more than anyone I know.

I declare, you can't swing a cat by the tail without hitting somebody walking down the street with a phone. Happily, I have a cat -- so I believe I can do this.

Although I've been out with the dog twice, I haven't seen another person all weekend, let alone one with a phone! So I'll have to resort to the archives.

Archival, I'm afraid. It's an odd thing -- I've avoided shooting photos of folks paying attention to their smartphones for so long, it's hard to break the habit and remember to deliberately do just that.

The WP team (it's totally a team already) has decided that the rules should be tweaked a little to allow people (encourage them even) to post both an archival and a new photo to the thread. So you can now post TWO photos despite what it says up there.

And I volunteered to post this amendment only partly because I'm feeling all smug about having found time to take new photographs. Only partly.

An archival one for the moment.

Army Surplus

I did snap a couple of pics of my mom on the phone but they didn't turn out very well. The other evening I lurked in front of the grocery store for a bit because the light was really nice and I did see lots of folks with their phones but I couldn't quite make it happen.

You all know: there are no deadlines in UTATA. Nevertheless there will be a new Weekend Project tomorrow. Just saying.

Also? I got the film back right in time to stay within the non-exisiting deadline. Phew!

And: We, the Weekend Project Team, are really flashed by the things you created! Well done, UTATA!

I'd have more of these by now if it weren't so darned cold out. But it is. So I have pictures taken in warm pubs. I did tag one. I didn't tag this one, but I was tempted to: you can see the phone only reflected in his glasses. (I've also been lazy about what lenses I'm not carrying.)
