I have a book that was published in 1860, by Case, Lockwood, and Company. It is titled, Memorials of Elder John White, one of The First Settlers of Hartford, Conn., and of his Descendants. It can be found here:
books.google.com/books?id=WCsaAAAAIAAJ&printsec=front...

As far as I can see, 99% of the book is in the same font. The closest matches I have found elsewhere don't seem quite right and they indicate that they were created after the book was published in 1860,

If it would be useful (and if I can figure out how) I would be happy to scan and post an enlarged section of the text.

Thank you in advance for any help.

It's likely that you won't find a digital font that matches what you see in the book, but there are several that come close. Maybe DeVinne Text is best.
