Decorative Typeface in Monocle Magazine

Hi,

Does anyone know how the decorative typeface (see upper right edge of this photo on Flickr - www.flickr.com/photos/stevengregor/2088649713/) used for each category of Monocle Magazine - "ABCDE" - is done?

I find the design rather tasteful. Just not sure if it's specially created, e.g. by processing a particular font in Photoshop/Illustrator, or it's an independent font set?

Thanks!

Cheers
gg.

It's definitely hand made (or Illustrator made), not a typeface. The form comes from Plantin.

Thanks, Stewf!

Wow. that must have been a lot of work. I see it done not only for the alphabets but numbers as well.

Yep. Glad to see my pricey subscription fee is going somewhere worthwhile.

Does anyone know of a tutorial to create this text effect, or something close to this? I had googled for terms like "embossed text effect", "text engraving effect" but no results so far.

Probably didn't find anything because it's not a generic effect. It's an original idea created by a talented illustrator.
