Pan Macmillan, British home to Douglas Adams' work, and the publishers of Sci-Fi Now magazine are running an exclusive competition to support Towel Day this year and the 30th anniversary of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy.

In September 2009 all five classic works will be re-issued by Pan Macmillan across the UK and British Commonwealth in a stunning new cover look. But DON’T PANIC you may be able to WIN the new look trilogy, a Sony E-Reader and other fantastic, limited edition memorabilia.

Simply join-in the Towel Day celebrations on Monday 25th May 2009, photograph your creative towel designs or any Hitchhiker style use of your towel. Then upload your photos to this group and you may be selected by Sci-Fi Now and Pan Macmillan as a winner.

As well as appearing on our group and the winning entries will also be featured in the July issue of Sci-Fi Now magazine.

Terms and Conditions
1. To enter this competition you must be 18 years old or over at the time of entry. There is no geographical restriction for entrants.
2. The competition is promoted jointly by Pan Macmillan, a division of Macmillan Publishers Limited of 4 Crinan Street, London N1 9XW and Sci-Fi Now, published by Imagine Publishing Ltd of Richmond House, 33 Richmond Hill, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH2 6EZ](together “the Sponsors”).
3. This competition is not open to employees (or members of their immediate families) of the Sponsors.
4. No purchase necessary. To enter, please visit Entries will not be accepted via any other means. The Sponsors accept no liability for any lost, damaged or incomplete entries and all such entries shall be deemed invalid. Proof of entry shall not be proof of delivery or receipt. There is no restriction on the number of entries. Entrants may be from individuals or teams. In the case of team entries all team members agree to these terms.
5. The competition start date is 18th May 2009, and the closing date is 5th June 2009. Winners will be announced on 12th June on and, and will be informed by email. The winning entries will also be printed in the July issue of Sci-Fi Now magazine. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges made up from representatives of the Sponsors and two independent judges. The winning entries will be those which, in the opinion of the judges, best captures the essence of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy through creative use of a towel through the medium of photography. The judges’ decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
6. First prize will be A Sony E-Reader, 1 x limited edition Towel Day towel, a set of the new look Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy trilogy when released in September 2009 and other promotional material surrounding the re-issues. Second prize will be 1 x limited edition Towel Day towel, a set of the new look Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy trilogy when released in September 2009 and other promotional material surrounding the re-issues. There are 10 x runners up prizes, each of 1 x limited edition Towel Day towel. There is no cash alternative for any prize or part of any prize. In the event that a prize is won by a team entry there will just be one prize to be shared amongst the winning team’s members and the team must nominate one team member to receive the prize on their behalf and distribute it amongst the other team members entitled, and the Sponsors will be concerned with such distribution.
7. The prize is not transferable. The Sponsors reserve the right to change, modify or cancel the competition if circumstances require it, but will avoid causing unnecessary disappointment.
8. By entering the competition and uploading your photo you irrevocably agree to grant to the Sponsors and their respective licensees free of charge, permission to use the material in any way they respectively want in perpetuity (including modifying and adapting it for operational and editorial reasons) and in particular for the purposes of inclusion in Sci-Fi Now magazine or other publications of either of the Sponsors from time to time published or made available, and all related promotional purposes in any media worldwide.
9. Copyright in your contribution will remain with you and the licence granted by you to the Promoter is not exclusive, so you can continue to use the material in any way including allowing others to use it. You waive all moral rights in your contribution.
10. In order that the Promoter can use your contribution, you confirm that your contribution is your own original work, is not defamatory and does not infringe any laws, including privacy laws, whether of the UK or elsewhere, or any rights of any third party, that no other person was involved in the creation of your contribution, that you have the right to give the Sponsors and their respective licensees permission to use it for the purposes specified above, that you have the consent of anyone who is identifiable in your contribution or the consent of their parent / guardian if they are under 18, and that you agree not to transfer files which contain viruses or any other harmful programs.
11. We normally show your name with your contribution, unless you request otherwise, but for operational reasons this is not always possible. The Sponsors may need to contact you for administrative or verification purposes in relation to your contribution, or in relation to particular projects.
12. So far as permitted by applicable law, the Sponsors hereby exclude all liability for any loss, damage, cost and expense, whether direct or indirect, howsoever caused in connection with the competition or any prize.
13. If you do not want to grant the Sponsors and their respective licensees the permissions set out above on these terms, please do not enter the competition.
14. These terms are governed by English law.
