Last year we started a series of monthly threads that were (somewhat) structured around how we see the world, using photos and words to help express our vision.

To start things off for this year, I propose that we share an image that is somehow related to your hopes, goals etc for the new year. As before, share your comments as you are comfortable.

Keeping things informal, let's go with postings until mid-February and then we'll try another subject thread.

Note: this idea was born from some comments/dialogue I had with Mike . Cand Dave dG ...for future threads please send me/post your ideas so that these are more than my brainstorming!

I'll start things off. 2006 ended with me getting some new new and old cameras to experiment with. I'm starting to test them out and at the same time, am trying to create more photos that express an idea or emotion vs. just recording a scene.

This photo was taken on Dec 30 and was an attempt to represent beginnings and endings. Not just of a calendar year, but a time in life and the seasons too. For me it was more about beginnings and so I called it 'waiting'. Also, I'm waiting for snow and the dusting on this bench lasted only an hour, so I'm still waiting for more of that!

Whats new for me this year is that I will be attending a photography school. I have previously taken classes at a local college but have exhausted the photography program. Also new for me is that I will be purchasing my first dslr in the next couple of weeks. So I snapped a pic of some of my collection of books - on my point and shoot digital cam.

books

Also new this year - My son will be turning two. That means in the next 6 months or so I will be potty training a boy. I would post my toilet shot here but I used it last month :) Having successfully potty trained 2 girls, I admit to being a little nervous about the boy. I figure dad may need to take an active role?? Any thoughts?

Hey, I have some of those same books!

Having dad being a bigger role might help. My son wasn't really interested in it until about 3, which is common with boys. Ultimately we bribed him. He wanted a microphone, and my wife told him if he got six stickers on the potty chart, he'd get a microphone. He got it that very same day.

I'm going to have to think about a photo to post... haven't really thought much about the coming year at all really.

As for potty training though, I honestly can't remember what we did for Aleks (and he's only 4 at the moment), but I do remember it wasn't overly difficult. Might have been related to going to child-care (or "pre school" as we like to call it as his older brother and sister go to school, so he liked the concept of doing the same).
