Kodak Endura papers are color papers (that is, not for b/w chemistry). They immediately turn black when you put them into b/w paper developer. Regardless of exposure.

Anyone want some color paper?

Anyone else learn something new?

I learnt all about Kodak 828 film and that you can use 35mm film with a backing paper made from cut down 120 backing paper.

Alas, I'm missing the 828 spools to be able to try this out in the ancient Kodak Pony 828 that I have.

That my TMAX 100, despite being at least 7 years old, can produce some fine images - at least they look fine hanging to dry : ) Also, that despite being 30? that I can still function on little sleep - can't remember the last time I started a day at 3 a.m.

And, I learned how to clean my new folder ! (it's a step up from my other 'toy' medium format) It's sooo cute!

I learnt (the hard way) that you should disable ICE when scanning Kodachrome slides. I should have joined the Kodachrome group here on flickr just a little bit earlier...
Now I'll have to learn how to remove dust in Photoshop...

What happens with ICE turned on? It works fine with other chrome films.
robotwolf PRO 11 years ago
Yes, on "normal" chromes ICE works fine.
But Kodachrome is different. It seems the dark areas are more or less opaque to infrared light used by ICE and because of this ICE is fooled. Exactly like with silver BW films. The end result is that you get some strange artefacts at the border between dark and bright zones in the image. Look at my last images in the stream at original resolution.

Ah. I'll have to do that. I have to get the kids off to bed now though.

I learned that there is really more than just a slight learning curve with going from film to digital.

Get a new camera did we Stephanie?

Yep - nikon d200. And I've learned too much to post here already :)
The Sage of Shadowdale 11 years ago
Oh...D200 - I'm jealous. The only thing that could have made me more jealous (in terms of camera bodies) would be if you said you got a D2Xs.

That bromide streaking is more likely if I semi-stand develop more than one film at the same time in my patternson tank. Might have something to do with not mixing low dilutions of HC-110 well enough, but it is interesting that it only affected one of the rolls.

Congrats Stephanie :)
I've heard the d200 is a nice body, but only vaguely looked at them when I was shopping as I'm more familiar with Canon and the d200 was out of my price bracket.

One of my contacts here in Sydney recently got a D200 and he said the shutter action is the sweetest he's ever heard. <sigh> So much to buy, so little money...
David de Groot PRO 11 years ago
I can echo that sentiment... I was lent a 70-200 f4 L USM lens on the weekend, nice bit of glass although a bit slow for my liking, so I want to buy the f/2.8 version now and a macro, and the 10-22mm wide and....

I was outbid on a camera today...like I need another one...still...

I know what you mean. I am always drooling over some new camera. I have my eyes on a Toyo 4x5 right now. Not that I've got the cash to buy it though. *sigh*
David de Groot PRO 11 years ago
Ah yes, cash (or the lack of it) is what keeps my photographic equipment collection quite small.

Impatience vs. patience...Impatience was the purchase of a vintage Zeiss-Ikon Nettar in December...a nice toy and wonderful to be able to slip a medium format into your pocket...but not really enough camera for me. Patience... waiting for the 'right' Yashica Mat 124G to come on the market...what made it 'right' was its condition and the extra set of lenses (telephoto). With a little more patience I'll find a set of wide angle lenses for it too.

Carpet pads wreak havoc on razor blades. Wet carpet pads are especially bad.
noicework 11 years ago
Ooh, that sounds like a lovely way to spend the day, Mike. Why are they wet?

My father in law inherited a house on Long Island, not far from NYC (where apparently everyone speaks like Fran Drescher). He lives several thousand miles away in Los Angeles. I live several hundred miles away in New Hampshire. His NY neighbor called him about the water that was leaking out the side of the NY house last Wednesday (I think). My wife and I got to go take care of it (and did so happily). The pipes had froze (and then thawed) and water had been pouring out from under the sink for an unknown number of days. It was 41F in the house. I'm still not positive I understand why the heat was off.

On Thursday I got the water off. On Friday I got the heat on. On Saturday I moved all the first floor furniture and cut the carpet out so I could dry the floor and furniture. I was amazed at how quickly I went through razor blades. Yes I can imagine better ways to spend the day, but I was happy to help out my father in law.

Wow, that's hard work. Very good of you to go up there Mike.

There's a new feature in Flickr: Collections.
That is: sets of sets.
admin
Michael Costolo 11 years ago
But also collections of images. A collection can have either images or sets. I don't get it. Isn't a collection of images a set?
David de Groot PRO 11 years ago
I read it as a collection could have either collections or set in it, up to a depth of 5 levels, but not individual images.
noicework 11 years ago
David--that's how I read it too.

I'm having mixed feelings about the new layout options. While I like a lot of my images larger (the medium option), that size only exists for the first page and what's on my first page isn't always what I (for that moment) like the most.....I do like collections of sets though.

I also have tendencies toward rigidity and uniformity.
David de Groot PRO 11 years ago
Yeah, I tried out the medium layout option but figured that it would also discourage people from clicking through and commenting, as the larger version is already on the screen.

The collections of sets though is handy for grouping together related sets, for instance all my Meetup sets.

Oh, so it's sets or other collections? I must have misread something in a different group thread...
