The weekend...

So how was everyone's weekend?

We lost our cat on Saturday. It hit my wife very hard. The kids, however, took it very well. Our 4 year old was excited because some time in the past my wife told him that someday when the cat died we could get a kitten. Children don't forget these things, so he was actually excited and exclaimed "Now we can get a kitten!" In any case, he and I buried the cat and had a few words graveside. I realized that four year olds don't quite grasp the concept of death.

This news on Saturday sort of tempered my excitement of getting my wet darkroom functional on Friday night. I did spend a few hours in there each morning before everyone else was up. It is very exciting to be able to run the film process from exposure to print. Made some 8x10s that came out fabulous. Now I need to spend some more studio time with the kids...

Sorry to hear about your cat. My own four year old has a fish. We were talking about how to care for it and how much food to give it and all thoses things when she told me that when we are all done with our fish we can put it in the toilet. I tried to explain but like you said, no concept of death.

I spent most of Saturday in the car returning from the smokies. The rest of the weekend was spent recovering from my trip. Picking up my print film later today but the slides and b&w will take a bit longer. So stay tuned and hopefully I will have sometihing to post soon!

So jealous about the darkroom. I only get one night a week at school. It is so SLOW working on someone else's schedule....

Awesome trip. We hiked more than anyone should I think. My kids were troopers - the 4 year old hung in there on some pretty tough trails. We really didn't expect that. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I got some good shots. It was unusually cold down there so most of the time I was freezing my butt off!

@Mike - sorry to hear about the cat. That can be tough, especially when you've had them for a long time. I have one that is starting to decline and it's sad to watch. Enjoy your darkroom, it's a good distraction.

@peylex- that is a very sweet shot. I can relate about the weather - I was working on a photography assignment yesterday, in 100 km/h winds, on the beach. My hands were so cold I packed it in after 2 rolls. I process the film in class tonight. I might take the uncut negatives somewhere to get scanned so I can post them. If I wait until after I print them I'll be so tired of looking at them that they won't get posted! Looking forward to seeing yours too.

Sorry to overload the group pool with my Smoky Mountain Photos. If you can believe it, I've only gotten through maybe 3 rolls of ten or more.... These are all shot on print film - Wont get my slides back until later this week. I also took a few rolls of b&W but I haven't even thought about those yet. So enjoy :-)
