I'm going to do a Neil from the Young Ones (anyone rememeber them??) Did you see the one when Neil comes out with a birthday cake for himself and says, 'hey guys.... it's my birthday' ...then of course came the "Shut up Neil".

Anyway, today is my birthday... I'm 37 today! And I'm going down to Cronulla to have breaky with my parents by the beach.... :) And I was wondering if you could post a happy photo in this thread today 4 me??? I would really love it if you could! :) Thanks guys...

"Shut up Neil" ;)

Happy Birthday Alison, hope you have a great day.

As for "happy photos", would a pair of puppies do ?

So these two puppies walk into a bar...

Or Maybe a Smiling Green Tree Frog ?

Happy Birthday Allison, just remember you are not 37 but working on the 12th anniversary of your 25th birthday. Here is a photo of my brother's black lab pup and his name is Rufus

For some reason, I can't get the picture to appear in the post, please click on the link.

Thanks you guys!

The puppies and the froggy are VERY happy and cute! Thanks, David!

Thankyou Stephanie for the cupcakes! :) I had french toast with strawberries and maple syrup, with a chai latte to sip... for Breakfast at the beach! YUM!

Oh Bill, Rufus is SOOOO beautiful! I want to cuddle him.... and I like the 12th anniversary thing... made me smile.... but I'm actually ok with the 37! :)

I've been sitting, eating chocolate and reading. Just finished "The Pilot's Wife" by Anita Shreve. Excellent book! I've also photographed the wonerfully happy sunflowers which my neighbour gave me today! (I'll get a digital camera soon, so I can post photos immediately!)

Tonight I'm going back down to Cronulla to celebrate with my friends!

Belated Happy Birthday Alison! Hey, why limit the celebration to just one day? Eat more chocolate and start a new book ; )

I will try to make a happy photo for you tomorrow - I just came home with a new lens (my own belated bday gift) - if you like herons and egrets (macro @ 200-300mm) I'll try and get something for you!

I'll send you a note when the film is back and I've posted. Might have been lucky enough to catch a Great Blue Heron in flight, otherwise you'll see him sleeping up in a tree and fishing. Ducks preening too (I know you like grooming). Chocolate - yum!

Herons are big. There are a few nests in a place I shoot often. They're great because they sit so still for you. But if you frighten them, what a ruckus!
picsbymac 12 years ago
Yes, they have a huge wing span. They're really cool, very pre-historic looking. Noisy, yes! I was set up to take a shot of a mallard duck when the heron came in on his regular fly-by. Basically before he perches or fishes in Grenadier Pond he circles the area and screeches to announce his arrival. I panned to try and catch him but have no idea if I adjusted the focus fast enough. 50-50 chance I got him.

I was out hiking one day to get back to the wetlands where there are a few Heron nests. (Hoping to catch the spring chicks learning how to fly, which I never did get...) As I hiked alongside the large pond a Heron flew by, effortlessly gliding a few inches over the water's surface. It was beautiful. Graceful. I waited patiently a few times in that same area hoping to be at the right place at the right time to capture that shot.

I've tried to catch the unprepared-for action shots like that a few times. Consequently I've made enough crummy images that way that now I just enjoy the moment and savor the memories.

Yep! That's a good plan, Mike!! Flying shots are so random and dificult to catch! That's why I really am impressed whenever I find a flying shot on Flickr!!

Sorry for being so late Alison; when you started this thread I was in the middle of 2 weeks away from any computers (well, sort of).

Anyway, shut up Neil...I mean Happy Birthday for a couple weeks ago. This is the best I can do for you from my current photostream:

Happy day!
My parents gave me this lovely arrangement!!! :) Also very happy!!
Thanks again for your happy photos!! :) Alison xx

Nah, wasn't painful at all I'm sure. The little rascal (he was from the opposition) was clowning around in the net while waiting for someone to retrieve the ball that had been kicked a couple fields away. I took a few shots before telling him I thought he ought to get back on the field as the game was about to start again (ie. stop mucking around with the net!)

Lovely flowers you got there - I can smell those orientals from here!

Taken out of context, that's really funny.
