Actually, your letters don't actually have to be "carved" or "stone". Molded/formed in concrete would be ok. The key points are that we've got concave letters, and they're in some kind of rock-hard material.

[Looking for a stone carved C I came across quite a few carved/moulded in brick or cement! Maybe another theme for sometime.]

eg:
letter C letter c letter C letter C

EDIT: DOH! I should have read your full description before saying that. Perhaps, if we keep to real stone with this theme we could try concave/convex man made carvings/mouldings.

Ee.

I have been thinking for some time about a theme of crudely carved letters, without getting around to formulating it. Lovers carving their initials or names into trees or benches, workers or home owners carving their names proudly into the wet cement of the new garage entrance...

I wrecked the "real stone" trend. :-/ I debated it internally for a little while, and that was before I read this thread. But I got impatient to join the party. :-D

Using Eva's idea, how's about Scrawl for the next theme title. Freehand scratched or scrawled letters on or in any *solid surface.

* Although wet sand would probably fit.

e.g.

letter A by Leo Reynolds
letter B by Leo Reynolds
letter C by Leo Reynolds
letter H by Leo Reynolds
letter M by Leo Reynolds
