BACKWARDS LETTERS.
- shot from the other side of a window (or "freestanding" letter ;-)
- viewed in a reflection
- posted backwards on a marquee
- hand-painted on a not-entirely-literate sign
- and so on...

It's gonna be pretty impossible with symmetrical letters, or maybe there's something I don't understand here.

yes, Claudecf. Three options: either we try and find the asymmetrical version (e.g. lower case a or m as opposed to upper case A or M), or we try and have some other signifier of backwardness (e.g. the photo was clearly taken from inside of a sign painted on a shop window to attract people outside) or else we just trust each other. I'm sure we're creative enough to be able to live with one or other of these for the symmetrical letters.

this sounds like the toughest theme yet

urbanmkr, can you post an example to this list so we can get a better idea of what we should be looking for? Thanks.

oh dear, I thought it seemed relatively easy...
here's a backwards B for you... it's just a forwards (and freestanding) B snapped from behind when it thought I wasn't looking.

a can see a small a, but m or o are definitely letters that cannot be backwards, whatever you do! Or T, or V or W or H!

And U. And I forgot I!

Lowercase u, t, and h can be backwards, and the other letters depend how you write them.

I'll have to wait till this theme is over ;)

Okay, no one wants to play. I'm converting this theme to a 'post your backwards letters here' thread, and returning to freestanding.

backwards C

A reverse - from inside

This would be pretty clear it's the backside of a capital A - shop sign taken from just inside the entrance (while almost being run down by Christmas shoppers).

OK, so we have ABC anyway!

I've got an R and an S (not uploaded yet) - very nice, metal cutouts from a wrought-iron fence. These are also backsides, of course, but not shop signs. I think with writing on shop windows, taken from the inside, it would be easy to fill an alphabet set; the more 3D backwards letters would be the raisins in the cake. Well, actually your C is a very nice shot = writing on windows can be raisins too :-)

I have only posted a single letter in this thread - but I'm just processing a whole alphabet of backwards letters for uploading. A few are "genuinely backwards" - from humoristic or "cool" signs. Some are from windows. I think most are more or less freestanding letters, from the backside. For the "difficult letters" I have found printing type / stamps can be a way out.

OK, my reversed alphabet is up.

I think I'll complete the lost/missing letters project next.
