Every once in a while, what if we do a REALLY challenging theme? One that would require us letter-hunters to really go out and hunt (more so than usual). Of course, it's difficult to guess how hard a theme really is until we try, but here are a couple of ideas that I suspect would be especially challenging:

Upside-down letters: Find letters that, for whatever reason, are upside down. They might be marquee letters hung upside down, or they might be wall signage letters that have pivoted around on one of their mounting screws, or they might even be other symbols that just happen to be letters if you turn them around (think "perpendicular" in mathematics).

Missing letters: Instead of photos of letters, we want photos where each letter is obviously MISSING. It could be a letter that has fallen off a marquee, or a misspelling (by omission) on a not-so-professionally painted sign, or whatever. Obviously the photo would not be of the letter itself, but rather a photo of the context showing where the letter was supposed to be.

Opinions? Additional ideas?

Oh, I really like these ideas!
We could perhaps add the distorted letters idea in this category.

And interpretted, just to pimp my own idea again :)

I love missing letters by they way.

Have you any idea how hard it will be to contort my daughter's tortoise into a letter shape? :)

I should think we can expect a splendid Q from a tortoise!

Yeah, I was thinking of "broken letters." The original shape is still evident, but the letter has been painted over, broken, bent, faded, etc.

Human letters. Getting people to form letters is a classic - difficult, but possible.

Or faded letters: just about gone, from weathering or because someone tried to remove them.

I'd like to try another tenuous link alphabet. We were nearly through the last one before I managed to "get it."

is it warm enough in montreal, paris, etc. for tatoo letters yet? in san francisco it won't be warm until september....
