Group DescriptionFürchtest Du Das Monströse?
Are you afraid of The Monstrous?
Dear group members!
The submission period for OBSCURA officially ended on 1 October 2012, so thank you
all so much for your wonderful images!
You're probably curious when you can expect a decision on who's going
to be in the book. Until that is going to happen, a lot of woek still
needs to be done. So we need to ask you for a bit of patience.
In short: What's going to happen next?
1. The OBSCURA team will go through all submissions and make sure each
is consistent with our rules and the necessary information is provided
2. Our panel of judges will evaluate the images and chose the ones for
the book (If you are curious who your judges will be, please take a
look at our blog obscura-book.tumblr.com/ where our judges have
been or will be presented within the next couple of weeks)
3. The OBSCURA team will contact the photographers of the selected
images and request high-quality scans and the copyright for printing
purposes. This will probably happen in December, so that we can go
ahead with printing in early spring.
Any questions on the process? Leave them right here, e-mail us at
email@example.com or post them on our facebook wall
www.facebook.com/obscura.buch. In any case, please do keep in
touch, we will do our best to keep in informed about what's going on
behind the curtains of the busy OBSCURA bees. :)
Group RulesWHAT THESE RULES ARE ABOUT:
OBSCURA invites photographers to contribute to a community-based book. You must read the following rules, terms and legal conditions before submitting any photos. By submitting a photograph for the book project, you agree to certain all of the terms and conditions relating to this project and you are responsible for understanding Your Rights.
The OBSCURA community book project (“the book”) is open to ALL photographers at least 18 years of age. (Please understand that we are not able to generally lower this age limit. If you are younger than 18 and would like to contribute, please e-mail us, we’ll try to find an alternative way. This is at our sole discretion.) The project is open to all participants regardless of residence or citizenship, so long as the laws of their jurisdiction allow participation.
WHAT TO ENTER:
For the selection, we’ll apply the following criteria:
1.Artististic criteria: We want to see the unseen! We're all pioneers in contemporary pinhole photography, so we'd like to make a point of the specific characteristics of pinhole photography to create this “special view”: from the distortion of perspective, lack of definition, playing with long-time-exposure to the use of multiple apertures. We’re looking for these new interpretations of reality, which happily welcome chance.
2.Formal criteria: All photographs have to be taken exclusively with an analogue pinhole camera. Which exact type of pinhole camera, which film and apertures etc. you use, is entirely up to you. For publication in the book, we will also need (at least) the following additional information on each photo: Your name, your town & the country you live in, the title of the photo and the year it was taken, the exposure time, used film (ISO) as well as the camera type if you used one from a serial production. Digital editing is permitted as long as it does not exceed the limits of common analogue lab work, such as tonal and contrast adjustment or cropping. Strongly digitally edited photos do not fit in our concept.
Images that do not meet these requirements may or may not be judged at the judging panel's sole discretion.
There is no entry fee.
HOW TO ENTER:
Each photo must be submitted electronically, by one (and only one) of the following two methods:
1) Via Flickr™ – To submit your photos via Flickr™, use your Yahoo!® ID to login to www.flickr.com. If you do not have an account, you can sign-up for free at www.flickr.com. Flickr™ and Yahoo!® are trademarks of Yahoo, Inc. After logging in, upload your images using the mechanism provided. Flickr™ is an online photo sharing web site that is made up of many groups, including 11 OBSCURA Book groups for the 11 categories that you can submit an image for. If you are not already a member, join by clicking "Join this Group?" on the group's homepage. You can add your photos to one of OBSCURA Book’s photo-sharing groups.
Browse to the image you wish to submit for the book, and use the "Send to Group" function to add your images to one of OBSCURA Book’s 11 photo pools. Once added to the group, tag each photo with "OBSCURA-Book" and “Name of the Category” you're submitting for. If you do not upload your photo to OBSCURA’s groups on Flickr™, or do not tag your photo with an appropriate tag, it will not be considered for the book.
You may add up to 5 photographs in TOTAL. Additional submissions will not be judged. Please understand that we cannot handle more submissions.

Please keep in mind that OBSCURA is not responsible for copyright infringement that results from sharing through other parties.
If you have trouble using Flickr™, please consult their online help files. OBSCURA is not responsible for any issues or problems you encounter while trying to upload a photo on Flickr™.
2) Via e-mail / Manual Submission Process – If you choose not to use Flickr™ to submit your photograph, you may use the e-mail Links underneath each of our 11 categories on our website www.obscura-book.com/teilnahme.php. Please do not alter the subject line of the e-mail and provide all the information that the pre-filled e-mail asks you for.
E-mail entries are kept private and will not be published on Flickr™ or by any other means. In case we would like to feature you/your picture on our blog in any other of our social web accounts, we will first seek your written approval.
We are not prepared to receive photo submissions via traditional mail. If you are unable to provide your photo electronically, please e-mail us, we might find a way to accomodate you. This possibility is at our discretion.
