Announcing the August 18th Photoroll

view profile

Brooks Seymore says:

Our next photoroll is coming up on August 18th. After venturing down to Steilacoom and Fort Steilacoom Park last time, we're doing something closer to town this month: the area around 9th and Martin Luther King, Jr. Way.

The meeting point will be outside the Tempest Lounge at 11:00 AM. The Tempest itself doens't open until much later in the afternoon, but it will serve as a nice meeting point.

We're a loosely organized bunch and we rarely have an exact plan of what we're going to shoot at any given location. If something looks interesting through our viewfinders or LCD screens, we wander over and snap a few shots. All levels and all types of photographers are encouraged to join us, from those with the latest and greatest cameras down the cardboard disposable cameras.

Most of our previous shoots have lasted between two and three hours. If you can only join us for a part of the photoroll, that is fine. All we ask is if you're interested in coming along, that you comment below.

When:
Saturday, August 18th at 11:00 AM

Where:
Tempest Lounge (Outside)
913 Martin Luther King Jr. Way

Sounds like a good plan and a good place, I can definitely make it to 9th & MLK -- if only for this one very good reason:

Mmm and Hmm.... Is Johnson Candy Co. open on Saturdays? From a piece in the TNT it sounds like they aren't the See's Candy type place I'd always thought they were. An ice cream bar, hand-dipped nonetheless might make an excellent Saturday morning treat...

Brooks Seymore says:

@charolem: sorry you can't make this one, we're always eager to have newcomers join us. We do this sort of thing on the third weekend of the month, we seem to have about a semi-impromptu outing each month.

@lra0x: hope you can make finally join us on this one.

Oh, drove by Johnson's Candy on my way to Showcase Tacoma, it looks like they are indeed open on Saturdays.

Well, it looks like last months stroll is the last for me. Moving out to PA, and that would be a hell of a commute.

I could not face another festival. I have festivitis. We went to Puyallup and got a little nature time, instead.

TheDamnMushroom says:

Puyallup has its share of festivals... Meeker Days, the weekly market, the Western Washington Fair, etcetera.. :)

Sorry to have missed you, Lexxi. Brooks told us you intended to come and we had stood around in front of that place for awhile then were slow to move in any direction. We were easy to recognise, especially in Hilltop: a group of white people with camera with no clear direction, moving irratically. :)

Why go toheworst area of Tacoma and meet at a really crummy place? Just curious.

Doug Klippert says:

You mean why go to what was once the center of shopping for those who did not want to get dressed up to go downtown?

Why go to what is becoming, again, a vital section of the city?

Why see something like this?

Fun

I would like to explore Swan Creek a little more. Maybe see the Puyallup side. Would there be any interest? I could bring along the chitlin's so I'd actually be able to make it.

...you know Michael, people live in this part of Tacoma you're talking about. If I could buy a house right now I'd probably be one of those people.

There is a boat tour of the port: Port BOAT tours - Sept 16, 10 a.m., 12, 2, and 4 p.m. call (253) 383-9435. This might be fun.

I'll be out of town this weekend...family visit.
