Group Description

Punks, hippies, ravers, goths, mods... bring me photos of them all. And I don't want us to limit ourselves to just musical subcultures, as any photos depicting fringe culture that is easily identified by its fashion should be posted here. Any time period is acceptable, as I would like to see this become a wonderful historical archive as well a document of modern times.

Photos must depict a fringe culture that is easily identified by its fashion. This will probably mean mostly photos of people, though I'm open to anything that documents subcultures. Examples of non-people photos may involve key subcultural locations, such as Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, Camden Town in London, Greenwich Village in New York or Belmont and Clark in Chicago.

Although most subcultures with distinctive fashion associated with them are centred around music (punks, ravers, hippies, etc.), I don't want to limit ourselves to this. That said I look forward to loads of your best photos of punks, hippies and ravers! Examples of non-music-based subcultures are elegant gothic lolitas, cosplayers, bikers and graffiti artists (at work, not graffiti alone, as there are already many groups for this) and... well, I can't think of any more right now, but if you can, please start a discussion about it in the forum for this group.

Please geotag your photos. This makes it fun for geeks like me that enjoy seeing where you found stuff. If you've never geotagged anything before and that word sounds like rubbish to you, have a read over this document: www.flickr.com/help/map/#204. Trust me, it's cool!
