Drag to set position!

cedrus` ADMIN July 11, 2016
Photos must have been taken--or, for those who sit on their work for a while, posted--within the past month at the time of submission to be eligible.

Also, for a photo that had already been selected for a match and where this photo lost that match, please do not re-submit the same photo to be considered for another match.

Group Rules

Street Fight is a curated street photography pool with a democratic bent, brought to you by Observe.

From the queue of images that are submitted here, a handful of worthy shots are pitted against each other each week in the threads for a good-natured "street fight" in which YOU are the judges!

Weekly winners, as determined by your votes, will be accepted into the pool. Observe will also feature shots from the pool periodically on Facebook.

It works like this, five easy steps!

1) Submit one of your best RECENT street photos per week. To qualify, photos must have been posted within one month of the time of submission. (That gives some leeway for film shooters and for somewhat older shots that have only recently been posted publicly.)

2) Administrators will review the submissions and make a selection of worthy competitors each week, to be placed in head-to-head match-ups every Sunday.

3) While the threads are open, EVERYONE is encouraged to vote and offer their thoughts on each match-up, whether you have a photo in the competition or not. For your vote to count, you must provide a rationale for it (e.g., "X's photo has fantastic interaction between characters and wonderful light," or "Y's photo has great graphic qualities and a strong human element," etc.). Please be respectful of all contributors in your comments and no hitting below the belt.

4) Members selected to compete in any given week will be expected to participate fully in the voting/commenting process for that week by voting and commenting on each match-up except their own.

5) When the week is over on the following Sunday, those threads will be closed and the winning photograph of each match-up will be accepted into the group pool if eligible.

That's it! Take a look at the sample discussion thread for an idea how it all works. Also, keep in mind that the competition/voting aspect is really just a mechanism to keep a rotating cast of interesting pictures in front of us in order to promote scintillating discussions and analysis...

A Few Other Points of Emphasis and Random Notes:
If your photo isn't selected for a particular week (and the odds are such that it likely won't be), please don't let that keep you from participating. There's so much to be learned from analyzing others' photos, and we'll do our best to provide a selection of images where you can concentrate as much on what works as on what doesn't.

If your photo is selected for a weekly match-up, please don't try to rile up your massive social media following to come here and vote for your shot. Trust us, you don't want to win that way.

We may also create a 2-day Wild Card Match where we match up a few of our favorite shots among those that lost their matches from the past week and let your votes decide which one of them should be added to the pool. There won't necessarily be a Wild Card Match each week; only if we feel that there were losing photos of a similar caliber to those that won.
