I really like this group. It's the only group belong to where I make it a point to look at EVERY SINGLE photo in the pool. It's nice that we share a common subject because of our geographic similarities. We really should get together some time in person (in a public place). Might I suggest a Staten island Yankees game.

I was thinking about a photo shoot next Sunday morning at Historic Richmondtown. If anyone else is interested we can try meeting at 10:00AM in the Clarke Avenue parking lot. A Staten Island Yankees game is also fine with me, I'm a huge baseball fan.

I'd be down accept 10am is CRAZY early for a young swinging guy such as myself. with public transit I would need to leave my house around 9:15. If everyone likes 10am I will make it my business to be there. According to the website the place doesn't even OPEN up until 1pm on Sundays. The guided tours are at 2pm.

Maybe lunch then guided tour then rambling and taking pictures.

Let's compromise and make it for noon. It's more convenient to photograph when there's no one around. I will most likely skip the guided tour. If noon is a go I'll post it up top.

Can we go there before it opens?

My MO is looking like a tourist and shooting pictures of people while they think I am sight seeing

Yes, but don't look for crowds of people.

@Armchair Messiah - wait 'til you have kids: 10am? Been up for hours by then... :-)

Getting to the point, I can probably meet up to take some pics at Richmondtown next Sunday, but can't stay too late, as I have plans for the afternoon. Will likely need to leave by 1pm. Still, I figure if we have a decent group coming along, it won't matter too much if one of us needs to either arrive later or leave earlier than the rest.

So, we're up to three - any advances on that...?

@ andy - you seem to not understand that the way I am now at 24 will never change. Maybe you haven't seen my edgy photographies, but I'm too awesome to settle down. And second of all when I have kids they are going to be cool. they are going to stay up listening to art punk, smoking cloves until 3 am talking about bimetallism drinking non alcoholic absinthe. then when they get into high school they are going to get into high school when they discover phillip glass and boutique vodka. we'll wake up a 11 for brunch and then see a documentary about nazis and/or world champion rubix cube contestants.

okay it sounds like it'll be an early day so we can accommodate Andy and all the other normal human beings I am forced to share this planet with.

maybe people that are in the group but don't read the messages watch the pool. we can put up a jpg with the event info and a link to this post. with Andy and Robert there nikons will be well represented, but we need a canon guy there to explain to you guys how the canon sensors are better.

Looks like discussion has dried up, so perhaps we should finalize a meeting time, so that we can turn my tentative group announcement into something official with when/where details, for the benefit of any late deciders.

As our resident Richmondtown maestro, Robert probably has the best idea what chance (if any) we have of running across tourists at any point, for Armchair Messiah to be able to work his magic. Though I for one am counting on at least getting a new user icon out of this meetup...

I'll show up at 11:45 at the Clarke Avenue parking lot. I can hang around till about 1:00. It's never crowded (but then again actual tours start at 2:00). If it's raining we will have to take a pass as there is not much in the way of indoor shelter.

Ok, 11:45 set as the official start time, and the weather forecast appears promising at this point.

I suspect I'll be there a bit earlier (as I've never taken photos at Richmondtown before, and need a little more photography practice at the moment - on a bit of a cold streak), but will return to the lot at the meet time.

If anyone else is there early, I shouldn't be hard to find, just look for the guy struggling under the weight of the ridiculously oversized camera :-)

Excellent point, James. Let me amend my previous statement. I'll be the one struggling under the weight of a ridiculously oversized camera, leaving a breadcrumb trail of useful photo accessories behind me as I walk...
