I'm Cheating....

Ok, I admit, I don't live or work in Southend. I live on Canvey, but visit Southend regularly.
I sometimes do a bit of street photography there as you get a good mix of people.

I also am cheating. I live 200 yards over the county/borough border in Rayleigh/Eastwood. But I've got an 01702 telephone number, an SS post code and I was educated at SHSB. Does this qualify me?

You are all much nearer to Southend than I am

I started a new job down Aviation Way a couple of weeks ago, thinking I was working in Southend - checked a large sacle map and found I was working in Rochford! I commute from Stanford-le-Hope and pass through Southend every day - twice! I also frequently visit Leigh-on-Sea for photography and imbibing purposes (The Crooked Billet). So hopefully, I qualify for membership!!

You don't have to live here to qualify Dave, just post your pictures and topics about the area and welcome!

In the words of Crocodile Dundee, "Call that cheating?"
I live in New Zealand - _That's_ cheating!

But I grew up on one of the Smallholdings opposite the church in Eastwoodbury Lane, before moving to Shoeburyness; Thundersley and finally South Benfleet. I came to New Zealand three years ago.

So I guess I had better find a couple of pictures to post. :-)

Hi Trevor

Welcome to our group!
I have to say, some of the pictures from your new home are a little more scenic than your old!!
So how are things in NZ, did you make the right choice? looks like you did from here!!!

Trevor Dennis says:

Hi Harry and group. Yes NZ is very scenic, but they say (well Freeman Patterson does) that you can walk ten foot from your front door and find a dozen pictures. I prefer to photograph people to landscapes, so it does not matter where I am.

It's still a wonderful place to live though. But then again, I was pleased as punch to find your group with all its lovely pictures of Southend, so go figure. :-)

BTW Dave Amis, I grew up in the house opposite Aviation way, but it was just a farm track when I first lived there. I can remember many a good walk through to the Cock Inn where Starlight bitter was 10 (old) pence a pint!

Bitter at 10d a pint? That was a long while ago! I can remember it in the Cock at 1s/8d in 1968.

I was born in 1949, so even allowing for under age liberties, it was only slightly before then. And the Starlight was the cheapest thing in the pub. Petrol was 4s/11d. for a gallon - just in case anyone here is young enougth to think it always came in litres.

And 20 Rothman's King Size were 4s/6d and you could get emphysemia and liver-failure on ten bob a night. Great times! And with cheap petrol I could afford to ride like a lunatic on a 500cc Triumph. Happy days gone forever!

Hell! I'm coming out too. My home is in Hockley. But my wife used to live at Southend, not far from the pier. Does that qualify me, lads. Also visit the resort regularly, armed with my Fuji. Beware ...

Hmmm! I live in Southend but occasionally take photos from outside Southend of Southend. Eg from Coal House Fort, 13 miles away according to google earth. I never considered it cheating.
But here is an idea, what is furthest away (the rule being that airial photos are not allowed can you get a Photo of Southend-on-Sea.

Aerial photos not allowed!!
I have not heard that!

Although I suppose we would not particularly want the images from Google maps!!

We are pretty open about what comprises a picture of Southend! But we would draw the line at a picture of the family cat, just because it happened to be in a Southend garden!!
