Hi. Has anybody in the group tried using a teleconverter in conjunction with a 300 mm telephoto zoom?

I haven't tried it yet but bought one on line and it came today, can't understand how to get it to hook up to the lens. It works nicely if i hold it in place, but who wants to do that? I'm wondering if there is a connector that would make the difference? or if i have the wrong converter?

Using TC's are very complicated. Compatibility is nearly impossible to predict. So basically it's trial and error so in less you have an endless flow of cash it's best to do your research and find out what TC's work well with a given lens.

Often a TC is designed specifically for a line of lenses and it's hit or miss with anything outside of that line.

I think Olympus is the only brand that makes a TC that is designed to work with all lenses in their lineup. Outside of that you just have to do your research.

It's a hassle I know... but go to a group or blog specifically for the lens you want a TC for and ask in that chat... it's a good place to start.

thanks for your replies. Guess I'll just have to stump up the cash for a sony teleconverter

Not necessarily. Sony TC's are no more or less compatable than any other TC. Are you saying you have the Sony 300mm G f/2.8? Because then yes the Sony TC's would be a great match. But if you mean some other off brand 300mm then there is no guarantee it's a good match.
