ABOUT THE GROUP:

Created in April of 2006, Semana Santa Filipinas (SSF) is the most informative and educational, most progressive and forward-thinking, most innovative and original, and fastest-growing and largest group on the web dedicated to Phillippine Religious Art, with more than 1000 members, in excess of 15,000 photographs in its Photo Pool, and a thousand topics in its Discussion Board.

Mission

We in Semana Santa Filipinas use our passion and knowledge about Philippine Lenten and Holy Week traditions to work for their perpetuation, propagation, increased devotion and spirituality, and continued evolution, all for the greater glory of God.

Vision

Semana Santa Filipinas is the most informative and educational, most progressive and forward-thinking, most innovative and original, and fastest-growing and largest organization anywhere dedicated to Phillippine Lenten and Holy Week traditions.

We use state-of-the-art technology, including but not limited to the internet, and complement these with real-world human dynamics to achieve our Mission.

In so doing, we ensure that Philippine Holy Week and Lenten traditions remain a permanent and significant part of Filipino culture everywhere in the world.

Values

We are Simple, Devout, Intellectual, Critical, Objective, and Open-Minded. We believe in Teamwork and have Integrity in everything that we do.

SEMANA SANTA IN THE PHILIPPINES:

Semana Santa (Holy Week or Easter Week in English), is the most important date in the Christian Calendar. Semana Santa commemorates the life and death of Jesus Christ -- His passion and resurrection.

Semana Santa is observed in different ways throughout this predominantly Roman Catholic archipelago. With over seven thousand islands and countless barangays and parishes, various traditions and rites abound to celebrate this sacred week.

In some parts of the country, it is celebrated with solemn processions of tableaux depicting episodes from the Way of the Cross and silent parades with the Dolorosa or Soledad (processional images of the Most Sorrowful Mother).

Throughout the nation it is celebrated with much religious fervor. Hooded Penitentes go around town flogging themselves on the streets. Others take a step beyond that and go to extreme measures to imitate the suffering of Christ by having themselves crucified.

There are more Filipino Semana Santa traditions, each is as fascinating and unique as the next one. Fortunately, most of these have already been documented in photographs. Come, join the group, and browse our Photo Pool.

We hope that with every picture and discussion, you will find something new, and learn more about our religious culture and heritage.

Semana Santa is truly a showcase of the Filipino's testament of Faith.

OUR GROUP RULES:

Photos:

Only Lenten- and Holy Week-themed images will be allowed for inclusion in the group's photo pool. Each newly-submitted photo will be approved by an administrator before it joins the SSF pool.

Membership:

New members will be required to agree with the group's rules. Current members are required to prospectively abide by the new rules. Failure to comply will result in banning from the group. Also -- and this is important -- each member's Flickr profile must have primarily original photos, i.e. photos that the member himself has taken.

Discussion Board Etiquette:

This is extremely important, so please read this carefully, and if you don’t agree, please do not join (or remain in) this group.

1. Relevance. Please post only topics related to this group's interests -- Philippine Holy Week and Lenten devotional traditions and religious art. Avoid irrelevant, trivial, and highly-personal comments and discussions (though personal messages and greetings are most welcome on the SSF Message Board; you can also send FlickrMail anytime). Irrelevant discussion threads and comments will be deleted without prior notice.

2. Photos. Post only the medium or small sizes of your photos on the discussion threads. Large sizes take longer to load, and also require inconvenient horizontal scrolling, making them difficult to view on-screen. (N.B.: To learn how to post photos in discussion threads, read www.flickr.com/help/groups/#156

Group Rules

Semana Santa Filipinas (SSF) was created in April of 2006. At the time, it was the only Flickr group that catered to Philippine Ecclesiastical Arts and Traditions. Almost any picture with a religious subject was permitted to be included to the group's photo pool. Since a lot of similar groups with the same interest have been created, we'd like for this group to focus mainly on Holy Week images again.

Santos: Images of Faith, SSF's sister group, was created in June of 2006. It is an international group created as a pool for photos with any religious images as subjects. Everyone who hasn't joined that group is invited to check it out and perhaps become a member. It has always been a much bigger group than SSF.

For Semana Santa Filipinas to get back to its original roots, some major changes have to happen.

Here they are. These are also the New Group Rules:

Membership:

New members will be required to agree with the group's rules. Current members are required to prospectively abide by the new rules. Failure to comply will result in banning from the group. Also -- and this is important -- each member's Flickr photo stream must have primarily original photos, i.e. photos that the member himself has taken. Flickr accounts that do not have original photos will be rejected for membership without any prior notice.

Irrelevant discussion threads will be deleted without prior notice.

2. Photos. Post only the medium or small sizes of your photos on the discussion threads. Large sizes take longer to load, and also require inconvenient horizontal scrolling, making them difficult to view on-screen. (N.B.: To learn how to post photos in discussion threads, read "How do I post a photo in a discussion?")

3. Animation. Animated GIF’s won't be allowed in the discussion threads either, as they too take a long time to load.

4. Courtesy. This group prohibits name-calling or personal attacks in its discussion threads. Let’s keep all discussions objective, principle-based, unemotional, and impersonal. Discussion threads and posts containing personal attacks or that are otherwise discourteous will be deleted without prior notice, and the poster will be given a warning or be banned from the group.

5. Openness to Feedback. Remember, not everyone will agree with you, think what you think, believe what you believe, or see what you see. We all have different opinions and points of views. Be open-minded and gracious as you receive comments and feedback, and don’t overreact or be hypersensitive. Ungracious, overreactive, or hypersensitive posts and comments will be deleted without prior notice, and the poster will be given a warning or be banned from the group.

Photos:

Only Holy Week-themed images will be allowed for inclusion in the group's photo pool. Each newly-submitted photo will be approved by an administrator before it joins the SSF pool.

Chill and relax. The SSF discussion board, like the rest of Semana Santa Filipinas, is here to stimulate creativity, to share information, and to spread knowledge. Have fun with it!

Also, since all of us Flickr members are bound by it, please read and review the
Flickr Community Guidelines.

Thank you, and welcome to another blessed day on Semana Santa Filipinas!
