For our 2nd contest here on SCI-Lug we will be building what we all love: Starfighters. But here is the catch it has to be small! Here are all the guidelines:

Starfighter:
1. Your starfighter must be able to fit in a 14x14 landing grid and stand no taller than 5 bricks tall.
2. It MUST be to mini-fig scale. Meaning a full minifig must be able to fit in the cockpit.
3. If your starfighter is submitted as part of a diorama (ie: a hanger bay), you will be judge ONLY on the starfighter.

Entry:
1. You must be a member of SCI-Lug.
2. The starfighter must be built specifically for this contest! If it has been entered in another contest before the judging of this contest, you will be disqualified.
3. Entries must be made here on this thread (please post pics and not links). Please submit 2 different pics of your MOC.
4. Only one entry per person.
5. There must be at least 10 entries for the winners to receive their prizes, however, we will go ahead and judge the entries either way.
6. Entries must be posted by noon (cst) on February 1st.

Prizes:
1st place: 1 LEGO set ($40 or less) of your choosing from LEGO
Shop @ Home delivered directly to you.
2nd place: 1 LEGO set ($20 or less) of your choosing from LEGO
Shop @ Home delivered directly to you.
3rd place: A flickr pro account (or $20 via paypal) payed for by Nannan Z!

Judging:
The judging will be done by the Admins (who are not allowed to enter in the contest).

Let the building begin!

"What have you gotten yourself into Clay, these are some of the greatest small starfighters I ever seen,"

I was thinking the same thing! I have a simple set of things we will be looking for as we judge them...It will be a fair process but a difficult one for sure!

Keep on building guys...I may just throw in a couple of suprises to some of the more creative entries that don't get 1st or 2nd!!!

Looks like stiff competition, but here's my entry:

14145Y-B pilot by retracile
14145Y-B rear-belly by retracile

The 14145Y-B was widely maligned by carrier crews for scraping the paint off the ceilings of the carrier hangar bays. Pilots of smaller craft despised the "yella-jacket" for the scratches it inflicted on their craft when in an adjacent bay.
But with high maneuverability due to its dual-engine design, and more than double the firepower of most carrier-launched starfighters, the pilots of the 14145Y-B loved the starfighter dearly. On the carrier HMS Grimace, it is said that the pilots chose to repaint the hangar ceilings -- and pay the expense of the paint -- rather than relinquish their precious fighters. After the decisive battle of Urasthmis in which the HMS Grimace lost every starfighter except the 14145Y-B's, the hangar crews chose to sandblast the paint off the ceiling once and for all.

The model barely clears the walls and touches the ceiling of the box, but it does fit. More pictures in the set.

edit: Replaced original pictures with clearer ones.

edit: Full step-by-step build instructions on my blog.

When I thought up this contest idea I knew a lot of you would create some amazing MOC's but I didn't realize how much detail some of you were going to be able to put in such a small package! And as retracile said, "with over 2 weeks left for entries, there's no telling what we will see next." I am sure there are going to be some small fighters that BLOW OUR MINDS in the next couple of weeks!

Aloha! (I'm not actually Hawaiian so I hope that's not a swear word)

Some of you may know me from the CSForums, and if not, I'm pleased to meet you.
So far I've been really enjoying this contest. I'm actually going to build more MOCs with this size limitation.
I thought it's about time I threw my contribution in, while at the same time, injected a little humor! :D

So without further ado, I introduce the Sci-Lug exclusive,

"Trader Vic" Viper!

TVVoblique003

TVVback

Features:
-Tropical colours that relax the pilot, and intoxicate the enemy!
-Unique, "palm tree-trunk propulsion system"
-Tropical "biomechanical leaf armour"
-Built-in cockpit Mai-tai dispenser

Contest regulation reference pics can be found here in the set:

For those of you (youngsters perhaps?) who don't get the play on words:
You probably know what a vic viper is.
Trader Vic was considered one of the originators of the "Tiki" fad of the 1950/60s. That is why this Viper looks the way it does :D

Good luck to all my competitors in Sci-Lug, and Mahalo!

Here is mine. Hope It is OK to interpret the Pad as a Vertical compartment as listed in the back story....

The Gnat was an unmanned research probe. After pirate incursions in system, it was hastily converted to a maned fighter by the Colony on Rigel IV and renamed the "Super Gnat", Basically the sensor package was removed and replaced with a cockpit unit and weapons system. Overall mass and dimensions were kept close so that it could be used with the launch "cartridges" in the research vessels that were also refit for military service.

Dr. X: If Brickeye ok's that, expect to see a second wave of fighters... Think the judging is hard now?

I'm not sure I can afford the time for that.... :/
supreme eyes [deleted] 10 years ago
Dr X & retracile: I know that the rules don't forbib it, but it would not be very fair of me to allow you to change your entry. The rule that states "only one entry per person" sorta covers this. Besides it won't be fair!

Also, I am already having nightmares about judging this contest! I am really excited about how awesome this contest has become, thanks to everyone who has participated thus far. I suspect we wil have a huge flood of entries in the last few days.

McZargald: I don't see where you have entered...there are no posts from you in this thread that shows your entry...did youpst your pics here on this thread? If not, you have not entered this contest!
