Group DescriptionThe theme of the competition is 'Riverflies' (for the purposes of this competition 'Riverflies' refers to larvae, nymphs and adults of Mayflies Ephemeroptera, Stoneflies Plecoptera and Caddisflies Trichoptera). To enter, simply take digital photo of your chosen Riverfly, or Riverflies, in a natural freshwater habitat setting and submit it to the competition. Photos cannot be digitally enhanced and will be judged by our expert panel according to technical skill, diversity, originality and creativity of composition.
1st prize £500 plus additional prizes for commended images (full details available with competition rules, see www.riverflies.org and 'Group Rules' below.

When you upload and post your image to the Riverfly Partnership photography competition Flickr group, please ensure that it is clearly identifiable as your work, allowing us to identify you as the photographer, and make contact with you if you win the competition.

Group RulesThe Riverfly Partnership Photography Competition 2016/17 - Rules
1.The subject for the Riverfly Partnership Photography Competition 2016/17 is 'Riverflies' (for the purposes of this competition the word ‘Riverflies’ means one or more larva, nymph and/or adult Mayfly Ephemeroptera, Stonefly Plecoptera and/or Caddisfly Trichoptera). Entries must be digital photos featuring ‘Riverflies’ in a natural freshwater habitat setting.
2.The ‘Riverflies’ photography competition 2016/17 is open to both amateur and professional photographers that reside in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Republic of Ireland except employees of the Riverfly Partnership, their families, or anyone else professionally associated with this competition.
3.All information detailing how to enter forms part of these terms and conditions. It is a condition of entry that all rules are accepted as final and that the entrant agrees to abide by these rules. Submission of an entry will be taken to mean acceptance of these terms and conditions.
4.Entries must be photographed in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
5.Photos should be submitted digitally to the Riverfly Partnership Photography Competition Flickr group and include the entrant’s full name, address, email address, telephone number, age (if under 16), photo title, photo location name, date and time that photo was taken and make and model of equipment used to take the photo. All entries must be received by the published closing date to be entered into the competition and entry is restricted to ten per person. No entries can be returned. Illegible, incomplete, corrupted or defaced entries will not be accepted. The Riverfly Partnership accepts no responsibility for failed or lost entries. Entries must not be sent through agencies or third parties. Entrants under the age of 16 years must provide written consent from a parent or guardian to be eligible to enter. Full details are included in the Riverfly Partnership Photographic Competition 2016/17 ‘Riverflies’ registration form.
6.An image will be rejected if in the opinion of the judges it has been digitally enhanced, if it appears that the welfare of the subject has been compromised or that the image has been taken in an irresponsible way. Images of invertebrates kept in captivity or set against unnatural backgrounds (e.g. in a sampling tray) are not eligible. Images that have been manipulated are not eligible. The Riverfly Partnership and the judges reserve the right to exclude any image they deem to have been excessively treated so as to alter its authenticity.
7.To participate in this competition, entrants must take a digital photograph of riverflies, (for the purpose of this competition the word ‘riverflies’ means one or more larva, nymph and/or adult Mayfly Ephemeroptera, Stonefly Plecoptera and/or Caddisfly Trichoptera). Entries must be the work of the individual submitting them, must not have been sold or published elsewhere and must not have won a prize in any other competition. It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that no element of their entry infringes the copyright of any third party and that permission has been obtained from any people featured in the entries (or from their parents/guardians if children under 16 are featured). It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that no laws are broken when taking their photographs or by entering them into this competition. Entries will be judged on a range of factors including technical skill, diversity, originality and creativity of composition.
8.The panel of judges will be comprised of representatives chosen by the Riverfly Partnership. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence shall be entered into. The judges will select a shortlist of up to five images (referred to from this point on as the 'Finalists') which, in their opinion, best capture the theme of the competition. The judges will select their favourite entry from the Finalists and the winning entrant will receive a 1st prize of £500 to be presented by a representative of Pro>Media after 31st July 2017 (details TBC). Pro>Media will enlarge and canvas mount the Finalists’ entries. Each entrant whose image is selected as a Finalist will be invited to the competition prize giving ceremony and presented with an enlarged canvas mounted print of their image.
9.Entrants retain copyright in all photographs submitted to the Riverfly Partnership as part of this competition. However, by submitting an image or images by way of entering this competition, each entrant grant to the Riverfly Partnership the right to reproduce, enlarge, publish and exhibit, on any media, the images for any purpose directly connected with the work of the organisation. In addition, all entrants grant to the Riverfly Partnership the right to select, incorporate and display images in an online Riverfly image gallery to be hosted by either the Riverfly Partnership or the Freshwater Biological Association. Each image included in the gallery will be displayed incorporating a suitable credit to the photographer and will be freely and publicly available for download and reproduction. While the Riverfly Partnership makes every effort to credit photographers, including in printed reproductions of their work, it cannot guarantee that individuals, organisations and groups which download or reproduce images from the online Riverfly image gallery will include photographers' names. No fees will be payable for any of the above uses. Entrants whose images/ photographs are one of the finalists also agree to take part in post-competition publicity.
10.The Riverfly Partnership reserves the right to exclude an entry from the competition at any time, and, if in its absolute discretion the Riverfly Partnership has reason to believe that an entrant has breached these rules.
11.The Riverfly Partnership reserves the right to cancel this competition or alter any of the rules, at any time, if deemed necessary in its opinion and if circumstances arise outside of its control. Events may occur that render the competition itself or the awarding of the prizes impossible due to reasons beyond the control of the Promoter and accordingly the Promoter may at its absolute discretion vary or amend the promotion and the entrant agrees that no liability shall attach to the Promoter as a result thereof.
12.If the winner is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made, the Riverfly Partnership reserves the right to either offer the prize to a runner up or to re-offer the prize in any future competition.
13.The Riverfly Partnership is responsible for the publication, adjudication and provision of prizes for this competition.
