There's another ship of G&P before named mv DONA ROSARIO
route 1, Tubod, (Ozamiz), Plaridel, Larena, Tagbilaran & Cebu (Ozc optional)
toute 2, Iligan, Plaridel, Lazi, Dumaguete & Cebu
Maybe a sister ship of Dona Magna, look similar and size, Dona Magna route Oroquieta, (Tagbilaran) & Cebu (Tag optional)

I seem to have underestimated this thread. It is becoming a wall for G&P history. Keep coming. I need it for the database.

The accidents that befell their ships are not in the databases. Can knowledgeable members elucidate for me incl dates and places?
MOD
-BaDz- 6 years ago
I also remember G&P's cargo ship named Don Emilio.she was a tramper. she was later on scrapped in Navotas sometime in 1998.
Dona Rosario and Dona Magna were twin sisters with only minimal difference in their interiors. I managed to sail onboard Dona Rosario from Iligan to Lazi but that was a long time ago.

Hope island Lures becomes active again. He has familiarity with old G&P ships. Jon Saulog has old pics of G&P ships in his photostream.

Hahaha, maybe that very moment, i was one of your pax when i rode Dona Rosario from Iligan to Lazi... am just a kid that time...
seas2fly Posted 6 years ago. Edited by seas2fly (member) 6 years ago
Anyway, before they opened the Oroquieta route, actually mv Dona Rosario and mv Dona Magna alternated the two routes i posted above...
mv Don Victoriano and Don Joaquin served Ozamiz port before the liner of William Lines came in, particularly the FS ships named mv Victor, mv Edward, mv Elena and mv Henry 1...

kmlq736 6 years ago
@OLO rule: a really sad fate for a reliable and faithful ship like her :( .i think it would be better if they will just use her as reserve vessel.in case of what happened yesterday in CF1
kmlq736 6 years ago
but too late :(
admin
mbb8356 6 years ago
Unfortunately, ATS does not believe in reserve ships. They'll rather sell to the breakers than try their luck on a new route.
Jeth! 6 years ago
In short, they simply have no perseverance.

mbb8356 Posted 6 years ago. Edited by mbb8356 (admin) 6 years ago
When Esan came i was not too happy. Because i realized they have a cap on the number of ships. So i guessed OLO Rule will go.

Also the same case with the arrival of Kogane and Nishiki. I also guessed there was a ship cap. So they laid up SF19 and OLOGV. Also the reason why they did not return the latter to CFC.

So maybe the ownership really has to go so that we will be happy with a new arrival.

This is OT.

GP LINES Introduces Latest Addition to its Fleet – MV GP FERRY 2

In line with its vision to continuously provide better service to commuters and shippers, George & Peter Lines (GP Lines) recently acquired the latest addition to its fleet, GP Ferry 2, a bigger and faster Roro vessel that will augment the company’s present Cebu, Dumaguete and Dapitan routes and will soon serve Dumaguete and Cagayan twice weekly. This is the first step in the realization of the company’s plan to re-establish its pioneering routes and continue its commitment to be able to give the public and its loyal customers the best service for their transportation and freight needs.

The vessel has a capacity of 906 passengers and will offer four types of accommodations to suit travelers’ needs: Economy, Tourist, Cabin and Suite Rooms. It will also features a chapel, clinic, business centre, viewing deck, KTV and restaurant as well as convenience stores on each deck. The new boat will also have more room for palletized cargo and can accommodate rolling cargoes such as cars and trailer trucks.

“We are pleased to officially introduce the latest addition to GP Lines fleet. This bigger and faster vessel will further establish GP Lines’ commitment to continuing its 48 years of clean, safe and dependable service. Future plans of the company include acquisition of more vessels to cater to the nautical highway and revive other routes GP Lines has pioneered in the past to destinations such as Maasin, Surigao, Lazi, Larena, Iligan, Ozamis and other routes in the islands of Samar and Leyte” shares George T. Chiongbian III, President and Chief Operations Officer of GP Lines.

GP Lines celebrated its 48th Anniversary last October marking another milestone in its almost five decades of service in the local inter-island shipping industry. GP Lines was founded by brothers George Sr. and Peter Chiongbian on October 22, 1962 together with George Sr.’s wife Felisa Yap Chiongbian, who was elected as Executive Vice President at that time and presently sits as the Chairperson of the company. It is now entirely managed by the third generation family of George Sr. family headed by George III.

GP Ferry 2 will be having its maiden voyage on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 9 p.m. from Cebu to Dapitan and head back to Cebu from Dapitan via Dumaguete on January 8, 2011 at 4 p.m.

George & Peter Lines is located at the GP Lines Building, Pier 2, corner Arellano Boulevard and V. Gullas ext. Boats depart for Dumaguete and Dapitan every Monday, Thursday Saturday and Sunday and Direct to Dapitan every Tuesday and Friday. GP Lines is also set to launch its website www.gplines.com soon.

Maybe it's because of ZF's larger cargo capacity? Heard she's doing good on Cagayan de Oro carrying Asia Brewery products.
MOD
vanzent-travel3 5 years ago
seems for the reason that Zamboanga Ferry has much more space in its cargo compared to GP Ferry 2 since the former has 3 cargo decks.

Zamboanga Ferry is actually doing the Cebu-Dum-Cagayan route. Though she's probably slow than GP Ferry 2, her cargo capacity is much bigger. GP Ferry 2 is doing the Cebu-Dum-Dap AFAIK.
joeCARD3 main 5 years ago
DCS for G&P.
is it feasible?
might be a good runner for CEBU-DUM-ZAM route.
admin
mbb8356 5 years ago
Feasible. Since she is faster she can actually do a Cebu-Dumaguete-Dapitan-Zamboanga route to max everything. But pax will only be about 200-400 from Zamboanga. But cargo is good.

If there is a better ship G&P should relaunch with hoopla. To attract the old pax they lost. Maybe try to tweak sked too.

What do i mean? If she will drop anchor in Dapitan they should campaign for the pax now taken by Lite Ferry in the breakfast run. Two, make a bid for the RORO traffic between Dapitan and Dumaguete. Three, attract the mid-morning pax in Dumaguete which is captured now by Ceres. Offer it cheap. A pax captured by cheap fare is still revenue.

From Dumaguete to Dapitan they should also bid for the RORO and pax traffic in the dawn run.

And sailings should be twice a week. Rather than compete with the coming RORO of Ocean (the ex-Asia Japan) and the Lady Mary Joy 3 of Aleson they should cooperate and offer near-daily services to Cebu. To take away the pax now being held by Rural/Ceres. Anyway the bus trip is no more comfortable nor safer. It is just the withering of ship frequencies that drove most pax to the bus (aside from the convenience of not going to the port and daily departure).
MOD
James Gabriel Verallo 5 years ago
I think it would have been better if they bought OLORule instead of OLOMC.
MOD
-BaDz- 5 years ago
but maintenance cost wise OLMC is cheaper to operate than OLO Rule and still could take considerable amount of cargo and passengers. for me OLMC was a good business acquisition by G&P.
cr@ckers43 5 years ago
i never heard of olmc having engine problems. not even once. her daihatsu engines have been pretty reliable
MOD
Aris Refugio Posted 5 years ago. Edited by Aris Refugio (moderator) 5 years ago
On August 28, 2009 my ride from Nasipit to Cebu was OLMC now GP Ferry 2, we depart 8:00 PM but unfortunately 45 minutes after departing the ship slow down and stop. After 30 minutes we start sailing again but the speed reduced. She was supposed to arrive 6:00 AM at Cebu but we arrived 8:00 AM. I don't know what is her problem but the crew told me that she was scheduled to drydock at Ouano but forced to sail because CF 2 was not yet ready, but on the first week of September finally CF 2 replace her.

Media will just publish whatever they heard and not verify. That's how low journalism standard is in the Philippines. In the US and Europe a journalist will get fired for that. But not here. So one can also guess the quality of the editors.

Our media is a master of misinformation.

Coast Guard divers find hole in ship
By Mariella S. Bustamante
Inquirer Visayas
8:36 pm | Monday, January 7th, 2013

DUMAGUETE CITY—A small gash the size of half a ruler caused the MV Zamboanga Ferry to run aground here amid strong winds and waves spawned by tropical storm “Auring” on Thursday.

A total of 228 passengers were rescued dramatically after the ship’s captain, Roland Villarin, ordered them to abandon the vessel when waves hit its starboard (right) side.>

The lone fatality, identified as Joel Nunez, 34, of Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu, died at the hospital from septicemia, or bacterial infection in the blood. “His death was not related to the typhoon,” said Senior CPO Nelson Simbajon, station commander of the Coast Guard station here.

Coast Guard divers discovered the hole in the hull below the galley where people board and disembark.

Their superiors said it was “very small” and did not threaten the structural stability of the ship. The hole measured 4 inches by 3/4 inch.

newsinfo.inquirer.net/336827/coast-guard-divers-find-hole...

So it was the captain who ordered to abandon ship?

GP Lines Golden Legacy at 50
We are delighted to inform the public that future plans of the company include acquisition of a new RORO vessel early next year to augment the present Dumaguete, Dapitan and Zamboanga route. Long-term plans also include reviving other routes GP Lines has pioneered in the past.

From a Sunstar Newspaper(October 22, 2012).

So G&P has a plan to acquire new Roro. I hope they will spare the life of the two TASLI sisters.
