TT5 & AC3 Issues with 430EXII & 420EX & 580EXII

This is a bit of a weird one but maybe others are seeing a similar problem.

I am using a 5D2 with FlexTT5's and an AC3 and a 580EXII, 430EXII and a 420EX. All are withing a couple of meters of the Camera.

First the 430EX stopped responding to the commands set on the AC3 and just fired at what appeared to be pre flash levels. No amount of adjustments made a difference and I ended up setting it to manual.

Next day, same issue was happening but now the 420EX which had just fired correctly went to pre flash only and no amount of adjustments would fix it. I turned everything off, disconnected the AC3 and reconnected and it worked again.

Next, I am having a lot of issues with miss fires, in this setup I have three external flashes and none fire. Press the shutter they fire, press the shutter again and again and again and they don't. Then they fire again. Very frustrating, something is seriously a miss.

I have changed all the batteries and I'm running the most recent firmware version. Anyone else having these issues?

A shoot that should have taken about 45 minutes just took me 90 minutes, lucky I didn't have the client with me or it would have looked very unprofessional.

Forgot to mention, I have also seen a 580EXII on group A fire when only group B is enabled on the AC3.

Don't know if its any help but I had similar problems with one time flash and then nothing. Only I used a TT1 and two TT5's and no AC 3. It appeared to be a transmitting problem because after they replaced my TT1 the problem was solved. Have you tried switching the transmitting TT5 with another one? Just to see if the first one has a transmitting problem?

Do you have your TT1, TT5 set running the current 5.150 firmware?
That firmware update was for adding the proper compatibility of the AC3 I believe.

I have the latest firmware and I am having the same problems, Plus more. I love pocketwizards when they work but man they have made me look bad on a number of shoots. I think we just need to accept the fact that Pocketwizard customers are really just Beta testers. I am sticking with them though because eventually they will get these things to work right and when they do I have a feeling it will be awesome! But it is saying something when you see the pro photographers that have made videos on there website promoting pocketwizards using Radio Poppers on a live shoot. hmm..........

I'm having exactly the same problem, TT1, 2 x TT5's, AC3 and 580 EXii and 430 EX11, at times it ignores the ac3 and fires full power or simply does not fire :( I've been reading up on RF shields, is anyone having the same problem with either the Ac5 or ac7 shield fitted?

I had similar problems. I started with buying 3 430exII's because 580's and 420's emit a lot of inteferrence and really cripple the range and reliability.
But I still had problems. Then the other day I did a full reset of my 3 TT5's and the tests I have done since have been 100% reliable!

Only thing is that when using eTTL, as soon as I pop on the AC3, it overexposes about 1 stop, wich I frustrating. However I figure on using the manual power function for most my shoots, but still...
