Yup those guys have a lot of nerve. Imagine taking pictures right out there in the open. It is hard to get a good shot without having one of those CCTV spoiling the background!

Mean while the FBI, Homeland Security and a couple thousand other government sponsored agencies are collecting data daily via 'security' cameras and social media mining. The news caster should be totally ashamed of himself, being a willing part of an organization trying to reduce the rights of ordinary people.

I will admit that when a group of people do something that is out of the ordinary they will attract attention, but that does not make it illegal.

Don't waste police resources on this stuff when you have many thousands of white collar criminals and politicians who do much more damage everyday, to our society.

It is time for the people to take charge once again and stand up for your rights.

Brilliantly cut video. I watched and was left with the clear impression that these guys were pervs, looking for personal gratification from upskirt or similar shots.

Until I read what the guys said. And, you know, got the whole story. What a load. yes, they could still be pervs, but it hardly seems likely. Makes me wish there had been an actual journalist somewhere to give an unbiased report.

Journalists are always going to go with a more sensationalist perspective. It attract more eyeballs to the story and puts food on their table.

My experience has been that most people are quite reasonable. I will often approach someone after I have taken their photo and explain that I just took a photo of them that I think is a keeper and if they are unhappy about it I will delete it from my camera. If they have no objection, then they have my e-mail address to contact me for the photos if they would like them. Perhaps only 10-20% of the time will someone contact me for the pics.

@torgeaux that is the reaction when there is a group. If it was an individual doing all the same thing no notice. I have felt the same way when I approach a group of people that are different. It doesn't matter if they are church goers or bikers groups of different from me can cause me to be unnerved. Sometimes a bit sometimes a lot and I think back in my youth and can now relate to how some of the people who encounters 'us' felt.

Yo the journalists are just feeding on the general populous feeling of paranoia. The government want this to continue, because the more frightened the people are the easier it is to control them.

Take pictures every where. Too old to fight off baton swinging riot cops but young enough to still fight for my rights.

The thing that baffles me is the journalists who appear against public photography. Are they protecting their own? Don’t want the photographers on the paper put out of business? Is there a newspaper anywhere that does not run photographs taken by street photographers? If someone gets a shot that a professional photographer isn’t there to get the paper would run it. Is there any pro-photo-journalist who didn’t start out doing a bit of street photography? I just can’t get my head around the hypocritical angle that’s being adopted in those links and others like them.

More paranoia and "security theater".

"Help me! Help me! I'm being photographed!"

I watched the video several times... they are mainly just walking around taking pictures... one guy bent over.. but it didn't appear he snapped anything other than maybe women's legs.. which isn't illegal.

I enjoy taking street photography.... normally I use a longer lens so I can capture expressions. These guys were using film by the look of their gear. The didn't look threatening...

One of them didn't want to be videoed... If what they are doing bothers someone... they are free to photograph the photographers too.

The Irony of the clown who asked that the news camera be turned off sent me bowling over with laughter so hard, I think I broke a rib! I couldn't even believe he was serious about that insane request.
