The Phoenix Railway Photographic Circle was founded in 1970. Following steam's demise in 1968, Railway Photography was in the doldrums, and publications of the day couldn't see beyond a standard front 3/4 view of an approaching train.Wyn Hobson's's initiative changed all that, and Phoenix members have proved that modern images are be every bit as exciting as those of steam. The circle operates circulating postal portfolios of prints amongst members for mutual criticism.

Group DescriptionA Flickr showcase for members of the Phoenix Railway Photographic Circle. This site is a 'trailer' for the main Phoenix website. Phoenix was a foreunner of a gradually rising interest in a 'Progressive' style of Railway Photography, and although today there are many groups catering for that interest, Phoenix is still active, over 40 years since its inception in 1970. As well as circulating postal portfolios, a recent development has been the setting up of monthly display galleries and quarterly on-line galleries for members to offer mutual criticism on line, perhaps of a more detailed nature than that normally found on Flikr. Membership is normally by invitation, but if interested please contact the Secretary via the main website at www.phoenix-rpc.co.uk.
