Hey guys. I need some good ideas for a cheap makeshift or maybe a borrowed backdrop. I'm doing some family portraits for charity on Saturday and they may not have the best options. It will be easiest to set up a station and just have them move through and no good places outside....

Tips appreciated. Thanks!

Have you considered King Size bed sheets, e.g. white or black? Though, check they are on sale, when I last looked I could get an economy muslin backdrop cheaper than a King size bed sheet.

A friend recently suggested to I check out Joann's Fabrics. Apparently, when they have sales it is possible to get 10 feet x 10 yard fabric sheets cheaper than regular backdrops.

Also, check out Fabric Depot, I noticed the store on 122nd was offering 25% off so the other stores may have the same discount.

I agree with looking to fabrics store for backdrops but you got to keep in mind they will have creases that will need to be deal with.
I also go to paint and building supply store for drop cloths. See issue ie creases.

Or buy a short roll of paper and just pin/tape some up maybe? I think you can get a 53" roll for somewhere around $25-$30 locally. Large reflectors work pretty well too as long as they aren't too wrinkly or you move them far enough out of the DOF that the wrinkles don't matter much.

If your shoot hasn't happened yet, I have a 10x24 charcoal/gray muslin backdrop I'll be glad to loan ya. No stands but I can include some clamps. Ping me if you're interested.

Thanks guys. And thanks for the offer Pip! But there was no time.

It worked out ok anyway. No magazine cover material, but everyone was happy.
