Next meetup?

jbyram 6:07pm, 31 August 2010
Hello all! I've recently returned to the Portland area and will actually be in town long enough that I'd love to meet some of the more experienced shooters in the area. Is there a regular meetup for this group somewhere?

There won't be any more PDXStrobist shoots then?

Interesting.

Doug, I'm sure nobody here would stop you from organizing one;-> The lightist group does allow for the possibility of *other* kinds of lighting, so it's a little different, but not really an extreme change. Personally having participated in many of the PDX Strobist meetups for the last year, sometimes it felt like I was forcing myself to use flash in situations that were just stupid. Not often though as I'm big into flash, I can usually find something I want to change about a lighting setup, though reflectors and constant-on lights work just as well or better in many situations. . .

I think the PDX Strobist group is still a perfect place to talk about and setup shoots that are solely focused on strobism. Maybe it's an excuse to lean this group back more into education and learning strobism, donno, just thinking into the keyboard;->

Thanks Daniel,

I was just trying to figure out MeTake's post as it sounded kinda absolute and I had not heard if something had happened or there was some official decision on behalf of the group that I didn't know about.

No problem. I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think his decision to start another group was spurred on by any kind of single event. I think there was just some desire to branch out a little and to not always feel so stiffly tied to strobist photography, but rather embrace many kinds of lighting. . .

I'm sure all of the shoots he organizes for the group will be over in the Lightist group now, but some folks here may still decide to carry the torch on, who knows;-> I feel the same way with my own shooting, so while I'll continue to follow this group and post to it, I will be carefully watching the other group for shoots. Perfect timing for me.
