Feb is quickly approaching. I have two questions.

Would people like something on reflectors or softboxes?

Is there someone that has used either alot and would like to share their knowledge with the group?

Either way works for me.

Let's save reflectors for when we have a constant light source like the sun, and "yes" i know you can use reflectors inside too, but it would be nice to show the uses for both indoors and outdoors.

Also I'd like to have one these learning sessions be about post production one of these days.....

Yes post production would be nice, but I was thinking we would cover the basic light modifies before we go to the computer.

Jeff brings up a good point about the reflectors, so lets do softboxs, octogons, stripbox and so on. Is there anyone interested in leading?

Ken were you going to do a photo history again?

Agree with Jeff. I have used reflectors mostly for shooting with natural light outside or with a strong light coming from a window. I have used them a few times when shooting food and at an outdoor wedding.
I'd be really interested in the reflectors learning session and/or the softbox stuff.

I really wish I could make it to these sessions. So much to learn. Maybe you could set some time aside for DIY modifiers too.

I wouldn't mind a softbox session and then do reflectors later when the sun comes out. What about covering the use of Scrim's or Diffusers as light modifiers too sometime? When to use them, how to use them, etc...
I would love to attend a diy modifiers meet as well as a meetup about post production. Could we do one of those on a weekend? Pretty please?

I think we could still do something with reflectors indoors, but in the more general sense of bouncing light. Playing around with additive and subtractive light would be interesting.

My Three Cents

1. I've been clamoring to learn more about post-processing for a long time. I'm very curious as to how many of you go about it.

2. Yes, I'll come up with another photographer to talk about.

3. I think that using reflectors indoors and outdoors are two different animals and therefore should be two different sessions.

Post processing is a topic I am very interested in.

Soft light manipulators are groovy too, worthy of their own session.

We might be able to cover the reflectors in one session outdoors during nice weather if we had a site with deep shade to use reflectors as if we were indoors and then move over 20 feet into the bright sun and use them that way. I'm not sure reflectors are such a deep subject that they would warrant two separate sessions.

I am trying to get my hands around post processing as well as I think it is my biggest area of need of improvement.

Softboxes could be cool but we really need a bunch of people to bring a variety of them to really see the differences. That could be tough and it might take more space then OregonVelo's place.

If people don't mind driving to Vancouver (about 15 minutes from downtown with no traffic), Rochelle and I have a large 40x25 room that we could use for the workshops too. I am using it for my studio and it already has backdrop stands, lots of outlets, and I am working on getting a project up there too.
I'm definitely interested in post-processing just to see how much I actually don't know and learn new techniques.

UPDATE: I've created another group here on flickr called The Portland Post and I hope for it to be similar to this group, but with a focus on post processing w/ monthly meetups.

I have no problem driving to vancouver on weekends, but weekdays would be impossible. John, what software do you have installed for post processing at this time?
