Hi All-

I have a family portrait scheduled and they want an outdoor location. They like the idea of a rustic barn or something by the water. They are also open to suggestions.

Does anyone here do family portraits and do you have an locations ideas for me? If you have pictures in your flickr stream of those locations I'd love to see them.

Thanks for any help

Dave

There are a lot of awesome waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge area if you're looking for shots with water. Hit 'em with some flash and drag the shutter a bit and you can make a really nice shot!

Just a thought that Sauvie Island has both barns and water. pdxstrobist already has shot on the water last year on island. Exploring on the island you might even find a barn next to water to combine the two needs, that would be cool. I can recall several of the nurseries and farms out there have the type of building structure you are looking for. My other suggestion would be going to nursery/vegetable market around town such as THE BARN 5211 NE 148th Ave Portland,OR 97230 (503) 253-5103.

Thank you very much for the suggestions. I'll check these out. @dath1974 I like the idea of flash with the waterfall

McMenamins Edgefield has some great places to shoot too - old red door, neat old buildings, building covered in ivy etc.

Consider the trail system behind the Audubon Society building on Cornell. There is a pond and a couple of covered shelters among the woods.

At Pitock Mansion in the gardens with Portland view behind.

Or Silver Creek Falls

Another would be at Opal Creek, great water and falls but also old growth timber, and an old mining town.
