Welcome to the PDX Strobist group.

We have get togethers every so often; typically once a month. Anyone is welcome to announce a meet-up as long as it is open to the PDX strobist membership. Examples of these abound in the discussion archives. There is no set recurring meet-up time.

Now that you've found Strobist 101 I would recommend to just shoot and post. If you have questions please ask. We only ask that members abide by the guidelines.

Thank you Luke

I was lurking about the discussion(s), and was wondering if/how 487 members sorted out/participated in meet-ups and car pooling/cost of models etc.

Yeah... not sure we have had 487 people so up at the meetups, but we would love to have everyone come out... I think in the last year may 100 different people have showed up.

wow, if 487 people actually showed up to one meetup, that would be great..especially if we only 4 models. Then we would have to break up into 4 groups with approx. 120 photographers per model...and each photographer would be given 1 minute with the model to photograph, then rotate groups/models after 2 hrs and the shoot would be done in 8 hrs. And each photographer would have a total of 4 minutes of shooting with the models...

anyhow, it's good to see you here T.Dodge, hope to see you at a future meetup someday.

LOL if i was a model being shot at from 420 different people i'd freak out!

420 of them? Freudian slip?

metake said 120, not 420... LOL

487 shooters X 4 models = 1,948 postprocessed images.

1,948 images = crap load of disk space needed at pdxstrobist.org

I'm just trippin over how much pot luck food can be on the table.

to answer the title question one of the admins picks out a location and sets a date and time and puts a post on here... then photographers and models sign up for it on the dicussion...

at the meets photographers get there and whoever is running the group divides the photographers up into smaller groups of around 4-8 and sends them to predetermined spots at the location... then divides the models up between the groups... in the groups one photographer shoots at a time til they get a few good shots and then rotates with another photog... it's encouraged to work together and give feedback and share knowledge... after about 1hr the groups rotate one way and the models the other way... so every hour the groups have a new spot/background and model to shoot, and the models get a new group of photog's to work with etc. it's a great win win for everyone...

all photog's are required to submit a few pics of each model they shot to the pdx strobist website so the models can get their pics...

not sure if there is a FAQ on this somewhere in this group's discussion, but i hope i answered your question... oh and even if you don't have much in the way of equipment there's always people who can share etc.

I've joined the group and have been following the threads. I'd like to join up, but I'm on endless overtime right now, night shift...

I'm excited about meeitng other people and doing some shoots.

Alas, maybe in the late spring.
