It looks like several of us were thinking the same thing for December. This thread is a spin-off of the future meetup thread just to talk about December. So I have a few question?

Would people like to have a social meetup that is focused mainly on the social with a little bit of shooting for December?

If there was a social meetup, did we still want a full blown meetup?

If there was a social meetup, whould you attend if it was either December 13th or 14th? Saying yes, isn't commiting one's self... it is just so we could get an idea of the numbers that would show up.

I would like to do both separate or we can easily combine them. Perhaps plan for some shooting first and then party?

I'm game for either day.

I talked with Jeff last weekend though and he seemed to already have a plan for a meetup in December. So I guess we could either do that plus a social or move that plan to January.

I think it all sounds great. I am with Stefanie though what if it was shooting then party !

I will be there for either day, Just let me know where and when :)

All of the above sounds good. Either day works for me, Sunday is a little easier to find babysitting.

I would love to go, and since my calender is open, just tell me when and where and I'll be there!

I'd be in if it's on the 14th. Busy on the 13th. Aaron

I'm changing my proposal on the "Future Meetups - Discussions and Ideas" thread to the weekend of December 19th, 20th, or 21st.

OK, lets make it Saturday December 20th then. The next question. Since this is mostly a party, but with shooting allowed, should this be an afternoon thing like 1PM, or in the name of being a social gathering, an evening thing that starts at...say...8PM?

About My House:

My house doesn't have enough common areas for both a party and lots of shooting set-ups, but if it were mostly about the party with maybe the garage (where I shoot anyway) set up for shoots, but with people allowed to set up their portable gear willy nilly where they can cram it then I could host.

My house is simple compared to OregonVelo's split level but the kitchen is painted orange, the living room red, the main narrow hall is blue and I have a side overhang area painted red in case it's not too cold. The living room is about average but connected to an open kitchen. There is a guest room that could be put to use as a shooting location as well as the infamous garage where my creations are made. The guest bedroom is painted in Tuscan themed colours and decorated with old auto racing art and posters. I could even tidy up my bedroom which has green walls and 19th century Chinese furniture. Of the other three bedrooms, one is my always messy office and the other two are rentals. Both renters have wild paint jobs and furniture (we are all creative types) in their bedrooms which have been used as shooting locations in the past. Of course I can not promise they won’t be off limits, but they are all very sporting people. It’s definitely not nearly as big as OregonVelo’s house but party’s of 25-30 milling about have been fine. It is also centrally located for a lot of people.

It would be open sign up, but Oregon Velo has offered that if the number of those signed up gets too out of hand, then we’d switch the event to his house – an insurance policy of sorts.

Renee and Tara outside in red area; note the orange kitchen:
Hosted on Fotki

Two Tara's in my smallish but managable living room:
Cinetique Femme - The Good and the Bad

I have two dogs Napoleon and Pee Pee (see "My Animals" set) which get super excited when people arrive but them calm down. They love people and people love them, except that Napoleon sometimes feels threatened by small children - go figure. I live on SE Holgate near the intersection of SE 52nd.

This social gathering with shooting allowed would take place on Saturday, December 20th at either 1PM or 8PM depending on the opinions that follow this posting.

I'm open to anytime, but personally I vote for 1pm, mainly because if people have anything going on later that night, they could still go out after...
Stefanie Woods 10 years ago
I wouldn't be able to make it till about 5pm on the 20th. Ditto for the 19th.
The 21st is wide open though.

I'll most likely be working, and the holiday hours are nuts, store opens at 6 closes at 10, so depending on what's happening there, i'll try and make it for whatever time it may be at. :)

I am down for anytime (yes I am staying in Oregon). I think the idea Stephanie had about the shoot and then party. I think that would be really fun.

There my 2 cents :D

I hate to keep changing dates and times on you all, but there are a lot of schedules to consider, including that of the other residents of my house.

It looks like the 20th won't work so I have a new plan. I have two viable options; Sunday December 14th at 2PM or Sunday January 4th at 2PM. Please leave comments as to which you'd prefer below.

This coming Sunday night I will count them up, majority wins and we'll finally lock this thing into place. I will then start a new official thread that people can use for signing up.

Once again I'm sorry about all the changes this is more complicated than I thought.

Well, I've never been to a meeting, and don't even have all the gear yet, but I've been spending a geeky amount of hours trying to learn exactly what equipment I need to start doing the strobist thing. Is this something that I could come watch, without bringing a camera and getting in the way, or is it a closed kind of thing? Definitely interested in becoming proficient in strobist techniques.

I'm an airline pilot and am on call so I wont know if I can make it until the day before usually. If that makes me too high maintenance to attend, I totally understand.

Bandwagon effect, I vote for the 4th, vote for change !

@mm767cap
Please sign yourself up and bring your camera, I didn't have any gear when i came to my first meetup but it gave me the chance to see what all there is out there, use some of it and giving me a better idea of what I wanted and needed. Everyone at the meetups are great at giving tips or letting others know what they are looking to capture in their shots which I think is a HUGE helper. So I say sign up for the ones you'd be interested in and you can always cancel and let someone else take your place the day before. It happens often :)
dannotti 10 years ago
I can attend either day

Great! Thanks westwind. I'm assuming the sign up thing is done over a post on this forum? I'll keep my eyes open. Hopefully I'll get to one of these things sometime soon! I appreciate the info.
