Fourth week in July's Dinner and a Photo will be in reverse. This is the second to the last week of "Portland Racing's Mountain Bike Short Track Series". Mountain bike racing in the infield of PIR and on the motocross track.

Date: Monday July 28th, 2008
Time: Dinner 8:30 to ... Photo 6:00 to 8:15 (if you arrive later than 6:00 please use the bridge over the PIR race track, there is a road race going on)
Location: Portland International Raceway
Cost: Free (but you need to sign up and follow the requirements listed below)

Photography Requirements: All participants photographing are requested to put a few photos in the Oregon Bicycle Racing group and a few for a video. This meetup/photoshoot is for educational purposes and having fun.

Also note if you made it to my other bicycle mini-meets I will be enforcing the upload rule. So if you have not done so please upload images to the Oregon Bicycle Racing flickr group.

Dinner: Any one know of a good place in VanPort?

Mountain Bike Short Track racing is different than standard mountain bike racing. Riders will come around a lot more often, and you can see and walk around the whole course in a race. Check out videos and photos.

There will be a person shooting video and will interlace some of our photos. We have a concept of an idea and hopefully the finish product will be very cool.

If you haven't made it to the previous mini-meets (Horning's Hustle, Alpenrose) I would suggest only bringing one flash.

*Tagged Info: Please tag all your photos as pdxstrobist070308week4

***Also make sure to label all your equipment (especially light stands, pocket wizards umbrellas and flashes)***

Photographers (Max 6 new plus anyone who made my previous mini-meets):

Hey, I shot this in 2005 as official photographer and sponsor as part of Northwest Event Photography. It was a paying gig (of sorts) back then.

Shane, I see that you have some cool lit shots of this in your gallery.

I used on-camera fill (oh no!) for a lot of shots when I did this. It could work pretty well, especially around dusk. One issue is that 1/250 can be a bit slow for bike racing, even short track -- although the ghosting can look cool. If you shoot the whole series, you'll notice dusk coming earlier each week.

Tip for the adventurous: Lie down on the track just past the jumps. You can get some air and some heroic shots. It can be a little unnerving when someone lands 6" from your head -- it's actually dangerous.
