PDX Strobist Photoshoot - "Attack of the Clones"
Date: Saturday July 19th
Time: 5pm till ???
Location: John and Rochelle's place.

Location have been flickr-mailed to everyone that has RSVP'd. This is a POTLUCK so please post what you are going to bring and I will add it next to your name. We need a variety of stuff so look at the list of what others are bringing and bring something different.

The basis of this shoot is to clone your subject, so make sure to bring a tripod.
Here's a flickr group thats devoted to "clones" to get some good ideas of what the shoot is about.
At the shoot we will be working with one model per group and it would be a good idea to pre-plan ideas before the shoot (so feel free to use this post as a planning ground and RSVP page)

Photography Requirements: All participants photographing models are required to submit at least 1 image per model that they photograph. And there will be NO model releases signed between photographers/models during this shoot. This meetup/photoshoot is for educational purposes and having fun.

@OregonVelo, we need to invite Mr. Ninja into this thread of conversation, Mr. Velo, the one you posted is freaking awesome !!

@Jeff, this is not counted as clone, coz by clone I mean the copy
shall have whatever original one has, in this case, the clone is
headless. LOL !!

@Oregonvelo, thanks for sharing that link. I spent 1/2 hour looking at her photostream. She is incredibly creative and has the skills to pull it all off. Amazing stuff.

Can I sign a model release form with myself when I clone myself? ^_^
admin
metakephoto PRO Posted 10 years ago. Edited by metakephoto (admin) 10 years ago
@GeoFX: yep and i think you'll actually need to sign an additional model release each time you clone yourself :)

@coupeowner: Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir (aka _rebekka on flickr) was named the "Web's Top Photographer" by the Wall Street Journal in 2006 and probably has one of the top viewed flickr photostreams. She definitely has a beautiful style to her work that makes it unique.
Oh I am totally in for this meet up. After the last one I'm totally addicted! Count me in.

FINALLY a shoot not on a SUNDAY!!! I can totally make this one! Sunday's are impossible for me to shoot on! I would love to come out for this one and if there are more on Saturdays I can make more of these!
Squirrel de la Zuz 10 years ago
whoa, that sounds cool! maybe i could convince Scott to come too, if we could take a picture of him sitting and 3 or 4 of me crawling onto him from various directions. i think it could be a very sexy shot. would anybody wanna do that??? =) =P
I might be able to come but depends on the time. If its later in the day then I can't go :(

Sign me right up for that! Location suggestion: something resembling or made to resemble a life size chess board, that I don't need a car to get to! Rose Garden amphitheater? Maybe some large, dark, empty interior space?

Here's a burst mode clone (thus, lacking in plot) shot of mine (not strobist, though):

So... is this a cloning by multiple exposures, merged in post with a mask type thing? or darkness with multiple flash single exposure thing? or both?
I dont know if this matters or not but the artist formerly known as RynoMFT is now known as YouLookNiceTodayPhotography. You can change it on the RSVP list although I'll still answer to RynoMFT
pdxblazer503 10 years ago
@Tom.Lechner, I do not mean to discourage you, but the clone shots
we are talking about here is to make it a story telling, fun, exotic, full of
plots type of photo.

@Whoowl, (John) we are to make cloning by multiple exposures, merged in one picture.

So this is great opportunity for us to come up with all sorts of fun ideas
and we can share with one another. How fun !

Cloning is fun.cbx3blueminiboarder
I know that for some of my shots I would like to be the model, not to sound conceded :). I have some ideas as far as my other hobbies go and would like to bring some props as well. I wouldn't think these kinds of shots require someone that is photogenic since its more about the story than the subject.

Any thoughts on this? Any one else want to be the one in their shot?

Any preferences on where you guys want to do this shoot?

Currently we have Tom's suggestions:
1. something resembling or made to resemble a life size chess board, that I don't need a car to get to!
2. Rose Garden amphitheater? <---though i think this might too busy on a Saturday
3. Maybe some large, dark, empty interior space?
I vote for #3... especially because we will be using strobes. Although some kind of ambiance might be helpful like couches and things.

metakephoto PRO 10 years ago
@coupeowner: cloning work in Photoshop is super easy if you dont overlap your subject in the shots. It only gets tricky if you start having several clones and if they are overlapping.

Basic Cloning Tutorial:
1.) Set your camera on a tripod.
2.) Take 1 shot with your subject on the left.
3.) Take 1 shot with your subject on the right.
4.) Open both images in Photoshop
5.) "Copy/Paste" one frame onto the other.
6.) Select your "Erase" Tool
7.) If your subject is on the left, then erase the right side at 100%. (And make sure you are on your top layer when erasing.)

and maybe during the potluck we can go over the technique on Johns computer for anyone who needs help.

Please try and have at least one "clone idea" in mind when coming this Saturday.
Tom.Lechner PRO 10 years ago
I don't mind winging it (not talking about food), but it might be nice to have the basic layout of the place described beforehand? What sort of furniture/props?

Is John's place big enough for several strobist stations, or will the whole thing have some other sort of organization?

@angyalka116: The shoot is gonna be at John and Rochelle's Place.....and were meeting at 5pm for Potluck and hopefully start shooting by 6pm.

I like the medical clone shot you posted, but i have no clue on how we'd accomplish that look at Johns place....Maybe we should bring a green screen...

Anyone have a chroma-key green seamless that they could bring?

thanks john for letting us invade your apt again..it was nice to see the contrast of an empty apt from the last shoot, to a fully decorated apt...

deziner: the sweet corn bread was great
westwindsphotography: the chicken was amazing, we sat and finished all the chicken after everyone left...
pdxblazer503 10 years ago
LOL, Jeff, are you serious? you finished all the chickens left?
but true, I love all the food (maybe I am too hungry) hahah...
I even like the cheese in the salad, which I do not usually do.
I was wondering what's the reason for it, maybe the food out of
photographer's hand is just sweeter !

Again, thank you so much for John and your supporting wife to
let us invade your home :-) I apologize that the clone idea might
slow everyone down a little bit, but still hope everyone had fun
from it ....
