Onelight Workshop Portland

Howdy! Just wanted to let you all know that Zack Arias just added a couple Portland dates to his onelight workshop. I've really gotten a lot of out of it in the past and know a lot of people who have as well. You can check out the workshop site and also see a quick post I did about it on our blog.

It is geared more towards working photographers, but if thats where you wanna go, might be worth it. Feel free to email me if you wanna ask me questions about it (boone@gabrielboone.com, ichat: portlandboone). Or get on his forum to ruse some rubble.

I just realized that those dates are mid-week. Now that really sucks...

I guess the next best thing would be to watch the "One Light" DVD thats coming out. www.zarias.com/?p=144

It sounds cool but I agree with metakephoto.

But now here's a thought. How about a PDX strobist one light meet-up?

I think this would probably be easy to set up once we have a location.

It would be fun to put restrictions on the next meetup/photoshoot of only one light and see what we come up with.

I like this idea. I was trying 3 strobes last Sunday, and had a tough time keeping up. Should have focused on one, than added a 2nd or 3rd only when needed. Still learning.

here's a link to "Zack Arias's/One Light" flickr page, and there's alot of great examples of how much just one light can accomplish.

thinkable straw [deleted] says:

Maybe instead of thinking of it in terms of "one light" have it as "single light", where you might use one, two, or if you're like Mr. Mcnally, SEVEN SB's as a SINGLE light source.

Say for example the meetup was outside in bright daylight, one SB could have a tough time with the ambient sunlight, however, multiple SB's, from the same area would have an easier time, but becuase of the close proximity to each other, they would act as a single light source.

I think it's a great idea though, and the seminar would be a great thing to go to if anyone has the time. Those are some great examples Metakephoto

I think the goal would be to use one speedlite. But then again if you want to combine a bunch of speedlites why not bring a single larger light with a portable battery?

I say pick your favorite flash and bring just that.

@datangpdx: Dates! - There will be a mixer from 7:30-10:30 on Tuesday August 12th somewhere in NW Portland for everyone to get to know each other. Every local photographer is invited to come and have a good time, and perhaps network a bit. That also provides a good time for the workshop attendees to get to know each other and break the ice. The first workshop will be all day Wednesday August 13th and the next will be the following day Thursday August 14th. (pretty much all day starting around 9 or 10am)

We'll let all the registered folks know where it will be held a bit closer to the date. It will be in Portland for sure.

Just wanted to give an update. There's still 1 or 2 slots open on the Thursday August 14th day. Check it out. Doubt it'll be available much longer.

Just dropped some details about the mixer on our blog. Hope to see you all there and share a beer with you! Oh yeah, we've opened voting on our blog for the best local beer to provide! gabrielboone.com/blog
