I'm looking for interesting locations to shoot around Portland. I'm interested in
industrial (industrial decay, graffiti, edgy)
Goth and/or fantasy (ruins, cemetaries, grand gnarled trees etc)

I really like St John's Cathedral Bridge and park

In or around Washington park has possibilities

Are there any ruins of old buildings around and or cool cemetaries?

Just West of university of portland there is a road called N Van Houten Place. It takes you down to an abandoned factory area. Its a superfund site, so dont eat off the ground. There are some cool buildings with lots of graffiti there. I think it would be a good place for a photo shoot.

The location Black Dog is speaking of is really amazing if you like run down buildings and graffiti, there are 3 or 4 buildings. It is private property though ....

We will just forget that anybody said anything about private property!

I love the palce down there, and have been wanting to have a strobist photoshoot there, but I didnt know a super easy way down with your car, cause it seemed the road is blocked off? And just recently when I was down there a bunch of cars showed up, so there's gotta be an easy way down that i'm missing?

What do you guys think of having our May shoot there, so if it rains we'll have a bunch of covered areas to still shoot in..

I was there last weekend on Sat and drove right down no problem but maybe that's not the norm. I was there for an event and the property owner knew we were there. It would be a amazing spot for this group though, there's so much to cover and every wall has a different feel to it.

I've driven around front street a little and is where I did my zombies shoot.

Should watch for the country sheriff's though, we had one watching everything we did, (except when we took the gun out of course).

Here is a shoot I did at a burnt down industrial building: www.flickr.com/photos/eyermonkey/sets/72157602804798712/d...

It's fenced off, but you can easily get through.

It's geotagged, so you can see the specific location. But it's off 99E right as you get into Portland. Turn left a couple streets in. You'll be really close OMSI. It's somewhere around there.

@metakephoto: Haha. I've been wanting to change my screen name for a long time. It's hard for anyone to take me seriously when I have "monkey" in my name. Auzigog came from a predictive-text-message-typo. It seemed like a decent choice for a screen name considered no google results came up for it. I'm slowly transitioning over to it.

We should make T-shirts that say "Who the hell is OgalthorpeAuzigog". Click here if you don't know what I'm refering too. Or here.

FYI Metakephoto - You can drive your cars into the Pirate Town location. (It's actually called Triangle Park if anyone wants to look it up.) There is a HUGE hole in the fence people have made even bigger. They even put posts against the barbed wire in order to make sure the clearance is high. I've seen huge SUV's in there, but only ever felt comfortable getting our tiny Bimmer through the fence. Watch out for nails and broken glass... and for naked people having sex. I ran into that once.

And seriously, as delicious as the giant blackberries look, don't eat them...

Yeah that's what happens when I'm way out of the loop.

Hope no one ate the blackberries.

I did. =[
