Last year, we had our first Flickrnic at University Park (map), which was a great success.

This years will be on the afternoon of the 2nd August from 1pm

The FlickrNic is a picnic for members and friends of the the Oxford Flickr Group.

"The idea behind the FlickNic is for it to be a more family friendly event than our usual pub get together's for those members who have kids. Hence it being in a park on the weekend."

As part of the FlickrNic, we are thinking of also having a photowalk around the park.

Please say your coming on Upcoming

18th July is already double-booked for me. Could do 19th afternoon.

25th/26th July is OK, as is August 1st/2nd at present.
annaphotographer 12 years ago
I'm around for all of those as far as I know :-)
I think Sundays are generally better, less competing distractions.
MOD
Jazza2 12 years ago
That's probably why it was a Sunday last time then ;)

Yay
Al Power 12 years ago
July 17th/18th is a Fri/Sat. didn't you mean 18th/19th?

I can do Sunday 19th, and August 1st/2nd, but Sunday July 19th is my preferred date.

Jazza2 12 years ago
Al, yep got that wrong. Updated now
taperoo2k 12 years ago
Those dates are fine for me. June is my busy summer month this year.
Richard Holden 12 years ago
Both dates are provisonally fine with me. Monday 3rd August is a bank holiday, so maybe it's more likely that people will be away that weekend, meaning the dates in July might be a better choice.
SuzyJane 12 years ago
All those dates are out for me I'm afraid.
Sledge Callier 12 years ago
Can't do the first batch (And I suspect you may be busy on the Saturday as well Jazza) and cannot do the middle one due to family commitments, but should be fine for the first weekend in August...

Last weekend in July / first weekend in August is fine for me. Is the latter really a bank holiday weekend though ?
MOD
Jazza2 12 years ago
August one is a Bank Holiday, if your in Scotland ;) 31st of August for the rest of us
Richard Holden 12 years ago
Oh yes, so it is. Damn.
tigerita 12 years ago
The August one is better for me as I'll be away for the July ones

Jazza2 12 years ago
Looks like the August date is best for everyone. So that will be the 2nd August.
jamie hogg 12 years ago
Hello! I'm new around these parts. What;s a Flickrnic?
Al Power 12 years ago
Its a picnic somewhere green in Oxford where some of the Flickr Oxford people meet up, eat food, and drink pimms (hopefully!) chill out and take pictures (maybe).

Just an excuse for a picnic.
jamie hogg 12 years ago
Ah, thanks, should have guessed that really. Very civilised! Might have to drop by!
Barnaby_S 12 years ago
Hmm Pimms.
garrettc 12 years ago
I'm in.
Sledge Callier 12 years ago
Fingers crossed...
Sunflower Muse 12 years ago
I think I can makes this!
Margaret Stranks 12 years ago
I don't remember the Pimms! And of course, Al was joking when he 'maybe' taking pictures. Shall we go for a proper flickr flag this time, rather than the skull & crossed bones?! Do you have an electronic copy of the flickr logo, Jazza?
SuzyJane Posted 12 years ago. Edited by SuzyJane (member) 12 years ago
There was Pimms. I promise. Although i may have been hiding it in my picnic basket :-)

Sounds good :D
SylwiaPresleyArt 12 years ago
Can I bring my 3.5 year old son? (do not have to, so be honest;))
Barnaby_S 12 years ago
I think the answer is: "as long as you don't mind them being around photographers who might have a drink or two".
garrettc 12 years ago
There's no problem with that at all Sylwia. The idea behind the FlickNic is for it to be a more family friendly event than our usual pub gettogethers for those members who have kids. Hence it being in a park on the weekend.
SylwiaPresleyArt 12 years ago
Cool, great news. He likes taking photos too, anyway:)
itchyfeetphotography 12 years ago
Mmm pimms AND scrumpy :) *goes to throw piccy blanket in car boot*
Sledge Callier Posted 12 years ago. Edited by Sledge Callier (member) 12 years ago
Gah! Why did I say I could do the 1st weekend in August!? I so cannot do that weekend at all, due to being in Leicester and then Wales the following day...

Ah well, hope the weather holds out for you and if anyone wants the 'Flickr Flag' then let me know? :-)

(Yes, it is actually a scull and crossed-bones flag, but we were never organised enough to get a real Flickr flag made up...)
Barnaby_S 12 years ago
I have just realised I might not make this as since the date was set I have been asked to be the best man at a wedding in Cornwall on the 1st.

Not sure what time I will get back to Oxford on the 2nd.
MOD
Jazza2 12 years ago
Barnaby, I'm sure we will be there for sometime, so come whenever you get back ;)

I've added a start time of 1pm

For the last few months I've looked at the meet threads and thought I'd love to come along and they've all clashed so far, but I really think I can make this one. Would be great to meet some fellow photographers in Oxford.
garrettc 12 years ago
That's great news KatieSh, come say hi, drink pimms.
taperoo2k 12 years ago
I should be able to make it for the flickrnic, at least for a short while. No doubt i will wonder off in search of ducks and coots.
bb_matt 12 years ago
I'm a friend of Oxford Flickr Group. Me and CathyG will be there!
nonstop battle [deleted] 12 years ago
I will try my best to be there.
Agata...(exumbra) 12 years ago
Hi guys. Kal (fuzzed) and I are in. We'll sacrify a goat for good weather. See you there!
Harry B Wade 12 years ago
I have just stumbled across this! Great to meet other photographers in Oxford. I may show my face. Is everyone brining food and drink etc asin an actual picnic????
annaphotographer 12 years ago
Definitely - people will be bringing food and drink (and cameras) and there will be picnicking. Oh yes indeed. I'm glad it's not just me that sacrifices goats, by the way :D
garrettc 12 years ago
The long(ish) range forecast over on Metcheck has the weather for Sunday being mild with some slight spots of rain in the evening. Which is nice.

We might want to think about where we're going to meet up in the park itself and if the worst happens weather-wise, alternate arrangements. I guess we could wander round the Natural History Museum/Pitt Rivers for a while?
Margaret Stranks 12 years ago
I have just realised that I have a BBQ to attend on Sunday - with photographic duties, so will have to arrive at the FlickrNic late, if I make it at all :-(

Last time, we were on the right, about here. I'd suggest there again, as it can been seen from the entrances from Park Road.

Natural History/Pitt Rivers is a good idea of it's too wet
garrettc 12 years ago
Er, you just posted a link back to this thread, and the map in the original topic doesn't have a marker on it. *:)
MOD
Jazza2 12 years ago
Opps, try again ;)
Richard Holden 12 years ago
Hang on, didn't we agree when drunk that FlickNic was the much better name? I demand we follow through on this tipsy decision!
annaphotographer 12 years ago
I might try and make a flag. Can't be that difficult.
garrettc 12 years ago
Famous last words *:)
annaphotographer 12 years ago
I didn't say it would be a classy flag. It might involve two marker pens and an old pillow case. :-p
deejayhart 12 years ago
Realising this is my last chance to make that payment for the group show - can anyone give me their mobile number?

I would like to come along, but it might be later.

Ta,

Dan

PS put up photography on my site - www.djh-graphics.com - needs some changes but hope there's something to enjoy there.
itchyfeetphotography 12 years ago
bah humbug...change of plans means i'm going to guildford tomorrow, wishing y'all a sunny Flicknic!
taperoo2k 12 years ago
I might be a little late, taking my nephew to see the dinosaurs in the natural history museum first.
garrettc 12 years ago
It's a glorious day people, but possibly a bit damp from yesterday so don't forget your blankets/rugs/throws etc. Deending on anna's craft skills look out for a Flickr logo flag. We'll see you around 2ish.
annaphotographer 12 years ago
I have made a flag - but it isn't even remotely waterproof so am hoping it doesn't tank it down. It is, however, on a stick.

Dan, I will send you a flickrmail with my mobile number on it in case Garrett hasn't given you his.
KatieSh 12 years ago
2ish or 1ish?

Weather's looking good and I need to get out of the house as the plumbers are installing new central heating and my ceiling collapsed at eleven o'clock last night!! Look out for a rather frazzled lady with plasterdust in her hair!
Roo Waters 12 years ago
Looking forwards to seeing everybody today.

You said 2ish Garett but 1pm seems to be the time in the first comment and on upcoming.
bb_matt 12 years ago
Great to meet some new people, me and Cathy G had a good time - I was suffering from a self inflicted hangover (is there any other kind?), next time, I'll go to bed early the night before with a cup of cocoa.
taperoo2k 12 years ago
I had a good time, nice to have finally met people from the group. Even if my social phobia was playing havoc with me. Probably why i mumbled and went quiet a lot.

Thanks to everyone who made it out. Was good to see so many people. And I hope no one got sunburnt, like I have :(

If you took photos, can you add upcoming:event=2798839 as a tag, so we can find them ;)

And for those curious about faceball, visit the official website for more information.
KatieSh 12 years ago
Was good to meet everyone. Wish I didn't have to rush off and could have stayed a bit longer. The plumbers are still here at 10 o'clock and still haven't finished, so it's all a bit of a nightmare!!!!

Hopefully I'll be able to make the next meet for a bit longer!
deejayhart 12 years ago
Shame I missed the meeting - Anna and Adrian, thanks for helping out with your phone number but sadly I arrived too late - 5pm and the party was all over!

Anyway - when is next pub meeting? I'm hoping fairly soon...
