The "Four Foto Friends" (from RI, OH, AR, & CA) are planning to spend a photographic week starting in Cannon Beach and working our way up the coast (4-5days). We'd really like to maximize our effectiveness and hire a guide for some or all of our trip -- a bit like fishing a new region with out the experience to know where to go. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

Don't know about a guide, but you and your friends would be WAAAAAAAAY better off starting further south, in Yachats, and then working your way up the coast. From Cannon Beach going north beach access is not so great, nor scenic. The Yachats to Cannon beach stretch is world class scenery. Lots of places to get guided fishing experiences, too.

Yachats and or Florence is an excellent place to visit, but seriously you can't go wrong with any section of the Oregon Coast, someday I wish to take a long leisurely drive up and down the entire coastline.

We are now looking at two days in the Cannon Beach area and two days in the Columbia River Gorge east of Portland. Recommendations?

Start off at Cannon Beach, make your way up to Astoria. Astoria is a very quaint and scenic town. Then work inland on Highway 30, east towards the Gorge (Multnomah Falls) which is on Highway 84. Two days is too long to be hanging out in the Cannon Beach area. Will you be as far south on the Oregon coast as Bandon? The entire Oregon and Washington coast is VERY scenic. Be sure to stop in Depoe Bay to enjoy the scene from Highway 101, then continue north. Drop me a line if you want more details.
