Group Description

Remember the part of Sesame Street, where they showed children a series of images, and the object of the matching game was to identify which of the things was different, and didn't match or belong in the group?

This group is for images observed and captured in your daily wanderings, in which you have found two or more items or things that are so odd in conjunction / juxtaposition with one another, that you do a double-take. The combo of the items should be so strange that it becomes funny or shocking.

Think decidedly different, contradictory (such as mixed messages), or evidently out of place!!! Irony is welcome!!

Unlike the similar group on flickr (One of these things is not like the others...), this group is NOT for assortments you have set up yourself (that is cheating) -- you have to find these pairings AS IS in your everyday wanderings... the only setup should be in the framing of your picture... so, setting up 4 paper clips and one tack is definitely NOT going to cut it!!!!. So, fake, setup studio shots are not appropriate to this group. And it should be amusing (or thought-provoking), as well.

In order for your image to be right for this group, it shouldn't just be any assortment of indiscriminate generic items (like in a thrift shop or junk store), but rather, you should select a few items that really seem to contradict each other by the nature of appearing together. Perhaps you have a bunch of items that are exactly the same, and one really sticks out as different. I will add some good examples to show you what I mean.

If your images are removed from this group, please do not take it personally, I just want to curate the pool and keep the group on target, to create the most funny and entertaining pool experience for all.

(Needless to say, extremely racist imagery, porn shots, and otherwise offensive images will be removed --- somewhat racy is ok). Be funny and show differences without being despicable, ok?

One of These Things (Is Not Like The Others)
Words and Music by Joe Raposo and Jon Stone

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?
If you guessed this one is not like the others,
Then you're absolutely...right!

Three of these things belong together
Three of these things are kind of the same
Can you guess which one of these doesn't belong here?
Now it's time to play our game!!

Group Rules

Remember the song on Sesame Street, "One of these things is not like the others?"

This group is for unusual pairings and groupings observed in your daily wanderings, where one item or thing seems ironically out of place in juxtaposition... delightfully amusing or shocking when seen in combination. It should have made you laugh, point, or do a double-take when you saw it. Or just plain giggle with private amusement.

Not for just any indiscriminate, generic assortments of random/odd objects or hodgepodges found in thrift stores or flea markets AND NOT for setup (faked) studio or styled pairings of objects... should be found AS IS in your everyday experience -- your only interference should be in the framing of the shot... and the capture to digital or film. Also, NOT for collage, art pieces, or over-Photoshopped imagery... It goes without saying that images should not be racist, porn, or just plain offensive... be funny without being despicable, OK?

Join our game!!! And enjoy!!!
