GPS Question

A Travelling Jack PRO 1:30pm, 11 March 2009

I'm thinking about purchasing this camera. Just a quick question, do photos automatically get geo tagged?

Yes, when you turn the GPS on. You can turn the GPS on/off separately from the camera. You can also specify what gets recorded in the images when the GPS is off or it cannot get a signal.

Yes, once the GPS is on and has acquired a position. It can take a while to acquire a position, so if you want a geotagged shot, make sure to turn the camera and GPS on well BEFORE you plan to take the shot - if you just turn it on, you won't get a geotag - you can set it to remember the last position fix it had for a certain amount of time though, if you're not moving around much.

Not used this function myself yet, but from reading it does chew up the battery quite a bit.

It does, although it's reported to be better under the 1.2 firmware. One thing is to make sure you turn the GPS off when you're done with the camera for the day, otherwise it will wake up (even if the camera is off) and periodically do a position fix, running down the battery.
