With new cameras like the Nikon D7000, our latest relevant discussion involves Getting the most our of your Nikon 18-200 VR. A thread worth reading, and all your thoughts are welcome.

NOTE -- This group is not a "fan club" that indiscriminately promotes this lens. We always welcome thoughtful, respectfully-presented discussion of competing super zoom lenses and other potential alternatives.

Group Description

Welcome everyone.

This forum is for photos, comments, questions and discussion about Nikon's 18-200 VR zoom lens -- both the original version and the new so-called VR II update with the zoom lock switch. It's perhaps the most versatile and popular "do-everything" consumer "super zoom" lens on the market, and it continues to be a best-seller.

Our group is not about simply lavishing praise on the lens for its assets or bashing it for its shortcomings. The 18-200 VR has been out for a long time now, and just about everyone who has used one has something to say about its strengths and weaknesses. We welcome all those opinions. As one cable news channel likes to say, " We report, you decide."

Super zooms -- especially ones with VR or other image stabilization features -- can be a bit tricky to use, so we welcome all your tips and tricks on how to get the most out of this lens. Over the years, many copies of this lens have also developed some mechanical problems (like loose front elements) that can actually be fixed by the user without sending the lens in for repair. In our message threads you'll find complete information on these issues.

1. Please limit your uploads to three photos per day. Group members or visitors who want to see more of your work can always visit your photostream.

2. Submit only photos taken with the Nikkor 18-200 VR lens. Photos using supplemental devices like closeup filters or teleconverters are also permitted.

3. This forum is rated PG-13.

4. Remember that we're dedicated to exploring the capabilities of the 18-200 VR lens. Excessively edited pictures where the results aren't specifically relevant to the lens are not appropriate here. There are plenty of other places on Flickr to post your Photoshop masterpieces.
