I'm Guilherme and I have hated christianity and god. Now I don't believe in it either, just don't hate it anymore.
photogummiebear 6 years ago
Guilherme, its good to see that you don't hate god anymore but I think you need to try to believe in god. read the bible, talk to someone that's passionate about him, pray. Everybody has a different time they truly meet god. He is there whether you believe it or not.

Silly Question: If you don't believe in god what exactly do you believe in? Do you believe the big bang theory..I hope not. What made that bang? Think about it..the only way we could possibly be here..is GOD!
Please listen. :D

Thanks for the invitation, I look forward to being inspired by good photography and possibly sharing some inspiring images, too.

I don't have a single experience bringing my faith, but I do believe. My beliefs weren't (and still aren't) neat like a manicured garden, they are more like a wild field and I'm happy to stay like that.

I make a huge distinction between Religion and Faith (the former being man-made and serving mostly worldly purposes, the latter - purely spiritual). I have faith, but I am not religious. I do tolerate religions, though - most religions, including the religion called Atheism.

I will skip more than one discussion thread, because I am not here for theological disputes. I joined to see inspiring images, hope there will be many.

Finally, I'm not good at self-portraits (as my long photostream happens to prove), but when I have one, I will share it here.

Blessings to all and let's share what inspires us through our lenses!

I am Richard Cappetto, I was raised a catholic and went there a searching phase, I would say I was an agnostic for a while. I was very young, 12 or so. I searched and searched science and all the worlds religions. The Big Bang debate was very important. I would say it was science that convinced me there was a God; and as I studied the worlds religions, and only the Bible could stand up to any scrutiny. The Bibles creation text fit with how I believe the universe was formed. Over the next bunch of years I read the bible and studied Bible prophecy. Bible prophecy really was the kicker. Along the way I became a Christian, Believing that Christ is the son of God, but never did an alter call, until I got a chance at a Hope Chapel in 1984. I thought it important to make a public profession.

Besides Bible study I am interested in photography, I am learning Italian, I like astronomy, reading, music, travel, beaches and many other things and places.

I have a BA in History and worked on two MAs one in History and one in Education. I am single and a caregiver for my mom.

Hi. Thanks for the invite. It has been great reading all the intros and where people are from and where they are in their life's journey. for those wondering if there is a God, or how could a perfect God love me, or why I need God? I'll just say I know there is a God and that He loves you and without Him life is so less fulfilling. Read the Bible even if you don't believe it. Find out who Jeseus was by reading about his life in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. Go to www.2wordstory.com and see how God has changed the lives of ordinary people like me. He is real and longs to have a relationship with you. It's not about religion ... It's about a daily relationship with the Creator and the one who loves you so much He as God died for you.

I normally don't take many self portraits but do have a few. Most aren't normal sp either and hopefully don't scare anyone by them. Just messing around mainly and trying to be creative. Will have to post one when I get a chance. (posting this from an Ipad, so I can't do the normal way I' m used to from my computer) Thanks. Btw, I'm Dan and live in Michigan (USA).
My name is Randy Brandt. I am an elementary school teacher in Surrey, BC Canada. I gave my life to God as a child but was raised in a church where rules were way too important. The true mercy and grace of God were not front and centre. I therefore struggle with my faith from time to time.

I love photography and have a small company where I photograph children in dance schools. My wife owns a large school where we live.
Money Munni 6 years ago
Howdy! My friends call me Money...and pretty much most everyone I know only knows me by that name. =)

I'm a pastor's kid, although my father has long retired. My faith is rather unique...in that I tend to see things in a manner that few (Christian and Non alike) tend to see or understand. However, a common reaction I get after speaking with people about God is, "I've learned more about God in the 5 minutes I've spoken with you than in the 10 years of going to church."

Portraits are my passion. I love shooting the soul.

I also love science and my love of science and understanding how the world works from a scientific

Hi folks, thanks for the invitation.

I'm a portrait photographer living and working in hamburg in germay for the last three years having changed career during the move.

I wouldn't usually post to a thread with a religious theme, as it usually only so long before the abuse hurling starts, but this thread seems to have kept it together and a lot of people have been sharing some personal stuff so here goes.

I'm 32 and an atheist (99.99%. having trained as a scientist i don't think it unwise to deal in absolutes. There is alway room for doubt and a good scientist will always try to prove their theory wrong and keep an open mind), having come from a non-religious background and passing through born-again-christianity on the way.

I find the deeply held personal beliefs of others to be legitimate and valid and I always enjoy discussing religion with people of faith.

Because the subject of religion is so personal, it's sometimes difficult in a debate to distinguish passion from agression, i think that's why people avoid discussing it. Those that are most secure in their beliefs seem to be the ones who are happiest to reasonably discuss and challenge the boundaries of the religious debate. They are also the ones who can examine their faith and retain a sense of humour. If you choose to live your entire life by a certain system, I think it makes sense to scrutinise that system closely and understand it fully (atheists included).

right, that's my bit said. thoughts?

I have a deep feeling of being blessed, having a loving and healthy family. I have been engaged in christian spiritual music all my life, from classical to new gospel. Music beeing the common ground for all christian churches can bring us together in harmony.

My personal experience is, that god sends you small hints and messages whenever you need them - you have to start listening to it. It can happen when you open the bible at a random page, you go to church and listen to the preacher, through a radio show or just a friend who cares enough to tell you the truth ...

My interest as a photographer is to catch a glance of the beauty of life and nature - my wife being the biggest part of beauty in my life playing a central role.

Hi , thanks for the invite,
It is so good to have places to share photos and thoughts with other folks and to see their work - so often so much better than my own - not that I mind that - I have learned a lot from trying to understand what others have done to achieve remarkable shots. But I am also pleased to see some people sharing thoughts about life on flickr. That is something I am keen to do - sharing thoughts and experiences that I hope will be helpful to others.
My life has been, and is still being, shaped by God. It is not all smooth sailing either. [Although I have been blessed with a loving wife and children - now grown up]. Being a Christian has not made everything easy - I still have struggles and internal battles to face as I grow up, [I'm nearly 60], - more than enough of them - but I know I am not facing anything alone and that we are all going somewhere - and that can be somewhere very very good - that helps a lot.
All the best to you all,
Rob

I'm not that good freehand (far too slow to consider myself an artist) yet really enjoy creating gifs and sharing them on the internet.

The above was a painting on canvas which I then took a picture for computer editing. There is no change to the painting but I turned it into a gif, or two.

I haven't shared the WW chart in here as my art because I believe the chart is a gift from God and I am merely the chosen artist to share this chart of time, seen in my dreams and I very much doubt I would have found possible without a computer (never used one before 2004-5; same time I discovered the artist in me) and the uncanny timing of the beginning of the charts creation was my sanity saver.

2004-2005 was a significant turning point in my life, I was 33 yrs of age.
Something dying inside, a loss of hope, a sense of dispair, a knowing of fear, and I believe God brought me back spiritually even though was always there saving me (my body, and my spirit) my mind was being pushed and shoved with all the chaos and evil thrown at me through the acts of people and circumstances) the dark forces in my life have been so strong I could tell some stories where this sanity saving would be apparent to all but the tales of darkness aren't what I want to share but the glory of God I do.

I got pushed to the edge but rather than tumble over I sat on the edge so could see out of the box ;-)

I believe my being is filled by the love of God and the Holy spirit and as a servant of God I serve all by being the love I feel inside, and by sharing my heart and my mind...

Hi! Glad to be a part of this group. I live in Montana, near the Yellowstone River and fundraise for children's homes in an Asian country.

I surrendered my life to Jesus when I was 17 years old, when my now-husband (who was then my anatomy/physiology lab partner in high school...we dissected a fetal pig together) invited me to his youth group. When I heard the others there share about their faith in Jesus Christ, I suddenly knew that He was the missing piece in my life that I had been searching for. He has proven Himself faithful on my life's journey for over 36 years, through thick and thin. While I never doubted God's existed, it took being diagnosed with renal disease to really get my attention. Had a kidney transplant a few years ago (a gift from my amazing sister). I am blessed beyond belief and in more ways than I can express.

I have always loved photography. I don't always take the time to edit the photos that I put on Flickr because my main purpose to have them on here is to share photos with my family, but recently I've been blessed with a newborn grandson and I've enjoyed taking photos of him. Newborns are so amazingly flexible and still (most of the time)! I have a new camera, but haven't taken the time to learn how to use any manual settings, and I have a lot to learn about using light, but I still enjoy experimenting. My favorite types of photography are children, outdoors, and still life. I really enjoying looking at others' work as well.

Thank you for the invite to the group...My name is Catherine.
I accepted the Lord exactly 27 years ago today and my life has been dedicated to following Him. There have been good times and bad but no matter what Jesus has never failed me, He has always provided me a way to grow in my faith. I love being a Christian and wouldn't have changed anything in my experience.
I hope you enjoy my photos as I'm sure I will enjoy what I find.

Thank you for inviting me. I was raised in a strict Christian home, but one day, as I prepared to perform a song about love in a large church, I realized I didn't know what love was. I couldn't tell love from manipulation. I didn't know what grace felt like. The god I knew said, "Love me or die," and that wasn't love or grace; that was abuse. I walked away.
It was terrifying to let go of the only god I knew and many dark years of fearful depression followed. But I needed to let go of the attempts to appease an angry god of religion before I could sense the God of Love reaching out to me through Jesus Christ, who has suffered everything I have. Jesus said that God the Father is not an angry vengeful god. He is just like Jesus. Patiently, so patiently, he has shown his goodness. It is his kindness that draws me to him.
One day, a few years ago, I felt something jab my ankle. The only thing on the floor was a Bible, so I picked it up. It opened to a Psalm that talked about being rescued and healed. Since then I no longer need a cane for arthritis, or an inhaler for asthma, or medications with all their nasty side-effects for half a dozen other problems. I can walk for miles again! God has been so very good, so very kind. I have been freed from the pit of despair!
I am a musician, artist, writer and photographer. I am creative because God is creative and he made us in his image. Through photography he is teaching me to open my eyes, to pay attention to the beauty he has surrounded us with here in the Canadian Rockies -and to see Him. "For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature." Romans 1:20
God is good. Who knew?

Hello! I'm Bettina from the Philippines, an amateur photographer and I am a Born Again Christian. ^^ I thank God for saving me and for blessing me with wonderful and loving parents and sister.
I'm into anything that's related to arts. I got the interest, let's say "love" for photography through my good friend Maggy (check out her flickr here www.flickr.com/photos/maggybuenaventura/ ), who is an amazing photographer and I do credit her for what I am enjoying now as a hobby. ^^
God has blessed us with so many wonderful things and I get to appreciate them more with photography . I take pictures of almost everything, but I especially love nature.
I am glad that Flickr has become my artistic and creative outlet. ^^
Thank you for the invite! God bless.

Hello,
Thank you for the invitation into this group. I am honored, as I have very little real experience with photography, but I do enjoy the times I can get out and take a few shots.
I live in Colorado, USA; two wonderful sons and a great husband fill my life with joy. I am a very busy mom, both with my family and my own outdoor activities (hiking, biking, a little fly fishing here/there), and so sometimes I go long stretches without taking photos.
I injured my back in March 2010 and had to take it easy from some of my activities. And, although, I had taken a few pictures in the past, for sixteen weeks, I was only able to walk for my activity...and take pictures! :) It was the most "bonding" I had ever done with my camera.
I know next to nothing about photography, but am anxious to take some classes (can't seem to find any for a 48 yr. old, stay home mom who wants a decent class, but doesn't want a college setting/grade!) when my boys' schedules ease up...which will be never until they leave and go to college themselves. Someday it'll happen, and when it does, then I'm getting a new camera, too! :)
WoW...there are some intense discussions about faith in this group!
My faith journey is way to long to post here, just know that there have been way too many events in my life to NOT believe in God the All Mighty. I pray for those who do not know God, do not feel the Holy Spirit in their hearts...and all the love they do not recognize...yet (i'm praying for them, remember?). :)
I enjoy mass weekly, read the bible....usually doing an individual study or sharing a study with my husband.
Thanks again for the invite; i'll try to live up to the group's name! :) I gladly accept constructive criticism. ;) Blessings....

New Icon Image

My name is Glenn, I found myself invited to this group as I have other Christian groups even though I am not Christian...I've never quite understood that, but I am an open minded person. I do have some Christian artwork in my photostream, much of which is either from the historic church I grew up attending, some is from designs I have done (some of which are not actually flattering images of Christianity-but that is a matter of personal interpretation).
I am pagan, almost shamanic in outlook. When I was 18 I undertook a reading of the bible as a promise to someone who was trying to evangelize to me, reading the bible from cover to cover was actually what turned me away from Christianity entirely. Since then I have had numerous people try to convert me, reinterpret the bible for me, or point out alternate views of faith in Jehovah/Christ. (Including Mormons-I have read the Book of Mormon cover to cover on a similar promise). None have convinced me that the bible is the indisputable word of a god I could follow with a clear conscience.

I'm Rachel, 20 years old. I was raised Jewish, had a batmitzvah, but never really cared for religion. I currently don't practice any faith and on the rare occasion that I'm asked, I tell people I'm agnostic. I have a little admiration for people who can put belief into something like God, but I can't and don't want to, and hate having anyone's beliefs shoved down my throat. I have extreme distaste for religions that attempt to dictate politics, being that I am very liberal in my feelings about things such as gay rights and reproductive rights.

I love photography- in particular photojournalism, sports, and portraiture, and hope to make it into a sustaining career.

Hello all!
My name is Sarah, i'm 25, I run a bakery called Kiss & Bake Up here in Devon, England. I'm not an accomplished photographer, but I do photograph all of my work, and I'm usually armed with my camera at other events- if people want copies of various things within the family or friends occasions, I'm usually the first person to ask. :) I like to think that some of my shots are nice, but I honestly wouldn't know much about technique.

I was brought up in various churches ranging from evangelical, CoE and more, but now I really wouldn't know which catagory I'm in! I just consider myself very in love with God, and thank him every day for being in my life and pulling me through the almost continual struggles, and for now blessing me with a home, my fiance - we're getting married next year, and a growing business where I can reach people, and possibly even sow seeds by blessing my creations.
I'm not a debater, or into theory discussion, I live by faith and love.

One of me taken by a friend while exhibiting with the bakery. Very flashy but its rare that I'm the subject of a photograph.

Thank you for inviting me! I might be fairly quiet a lot of the time as I don't get free time at all while running the business, but I'll try to pop in occasionally, and will post to the wall if I think any shots are good enough. :S

Hello,

I'm curious about the invite, as most of my photography is quite secular. My beliefs seem to be a bit different than most of the others here: I believe that there is something greater than any of us in operation through every moment of our lives--that what we experience isn't just a string of meaningless unconnected events. Yet the specifics of my beliefs don't fall in line with most commonly known religions. If anything, I fall towards gnosticism, and am grateful for the uncovering of the Nag Hamadi texts--I feel that Christianity took a wrong turn, both in defining the relationship between the clergy and the believers as well as in the determination of what would become the cannonical Bible at the council of Nicea. In keeping with gnostic beliefs, I too believe that God exists within each of us, and our life's journey is to find that God within. This is reflected in my photography. I mainly shoot other human beings, in very ordinary situations, yet in each one I try to capture just a glimmer of the divine, surfacing from their souls. I guess in so doing, I might be showing some part of the divine within me, as well.

BTW: That's not me in the photo, just another soul in a bar on a summer afternoon.

I had no invitation but I found this group. At first I thought that the word 'experience' was related to 'making photos' so I hesitated to join, as I found myself not so 'experienced' compared to many other photographers.
Then I saw that there was someting more to tell about the word Expierence. Great to read about your 'experience' and great that you placed it here.
I will choose my pictures more in relation with your 'dimension' of experience and place them here.

God bless !!!!!!!

I've been posting photos for a while but only just discovered the discussion, looks like it should be interesting. I'm David from London, 51, Jewish but not ever practising beyond the basics, and see religion more as a cultural creation to fill a space in people's lives than an actual gift from god. I personally have little or no evidence of god, but unlike a true atheist am quite willing to accept it if I do.
I am far happier with Buddhism and meditation where you realise god within yourself directly, that makes a lot more sense to me and seen the results already in many people. I believe that is the true purpose of all religions but has been deliberately hidden and lost over the years.

Hey Jaze My wife was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism (Graves) at age 33. Her doctor kept encouraging her to have the treatment to destroy her thryoid with radioactive iodine but she kept refusing. The disease went into remission on its own and her levels are all ok and she doesnt even need the thryoid meds anymore. Her Dr. was so adamant she needed the iodine treatment but in her case he was wrong. She would recommend staying away from chlorinated drinking water.

Hello, and thank you for the invitation, although I am uncertain why or how I was asked. I always liked photography and have shot since I was a child. I began shooting more seriously after my son was killed in an accident and I needed to fill up my time with something creative. It does not fill the void, but helps.

Thanks for the invitation though I am not a photographer.
I was lonely and poor my whole life and I had a psychiatric diagnostic when I was 21. So I was happy to be invited to join this group, being so alone. I believe in God not because of personal matters but in a more philosophical way, as I always did. My camera is weak and it is very unlikely that I will have the money to buy one good one day, I have to live from less than 300 euros a month and pay some taxes, it has been years since I bought an object from myself. But a few days ago some nice persons helped me to pay my internet and phone bills until spring months will arrive and life will be cheaper. I am also active on many sites as a poet and haiku writer; I have been published on paper a few times in my country or abroad, I won a few prizes (no money) but I am not boastful about that. Of course life made me suffer a lot but I try to survive; sometimes I read the Psalm book, finding there sufferings that happened in my life.
My window was of course the object of many of my photos, it represents me as a person; I post here an image from my window, my first sunrise this year; it will be a pleasure to look at some beautiful photos in this group. This photo was taken on Jan the 2nd, 2012, but for some reasons the date is not correct on it. If you are interested in my work as a haiku writer you can check my blog:
