The museum

The National Museum of Rural Life is part of National Museums Scotland, the country's national museum service, in partnership with the National Trust for Scotland. We've got a 1950s working farm with dairy cows, sheep, pigs and farm experts on hand. You can see seasonal crops growing, take tractor-trailer rides and enjoy special events, farmland walks and spectacular views. There are 170 acres, including farmland, species rich grassland and woodland. Our award-winning museum building telling the story of the Scottish countryside and its evolution, while the Georgian farmhouse exhibits the furniture and effects of the Reid family.

Visit us

Want to visit our collections in person? Come and see us at Wester Kittochside Farm, Philipshill Road, East Kilbride G76 9HR. Please check our website for up to date opening times and admission prices. See you there!

Group Rules

All images must have been taken at the National Museum of Rural Life, which includes the museum building as well as the surrounding site and farmland. Images of objects and displays, architecture, events and people enjoying their visit are all welcome.

For shots of events and people, preference is given to scenes in the context of the museum, i.e. with crowds, the building, the site in the background.

Photography is allowed throughout the museum except in special exhibitions and inside the farmhouse, or unless otherwise indicated, so long as the images taken are for personal, non-commerical use. Please familiarise yourself with the museum’s full photography guidelines on the main group page before posting any images to the pool.

We would like our group pool to be as diverse as possible. You are kindly asked not to flood the pool with multiple similar or identical images. If you have several shots of the same view, please choose one or two of your favourite or best ones to share.

All posted images and discussions must be suitable for a family audience, please consider this before you post.

The admins reserve the right to remove any material they deem to be offensive or deemed to be in breach of the museum’s photography guidelines at any time without notice. Other material that is deemed not to meet the objects of the group may also be removed.

Repeat offenders will be blocked.
