Group Description
Do you have great images of a lunar eclipse? Post them here to the NASA Lunar Eclipses Flickr group.A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth casts a shadow that blocks sunlight that normally reflects off of the moon. A total lunar eclipse can only happen when the sun, Earth and moon are perfectly aligned. During a lunar eclipse, as Earth's shadow crosses the moon, the shadow will appear dark until it has completely covered the moon. The moon will often become reddish due to red and orange light being scattered by the atmosphere.
