We'll feature some of our favourite portfolios and pictures from the group on guardian.co.uk and maybe in other formats, e.g. our newspapers. By posting your pictures here you a) acknowledge that you have created the pictures or have permission to do so; and b) grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, free licence to publish your pictures as described. Copyright resides with you and you may reuse your pictures however you wish. You will be credited and paid if we make other uses of your pictures.

Group Description

Originally set up the day after the historic US election in November 2008, members were invited to send messages to the president-elect. More than 800 greetings, warnings, advice and ideas were sent.

Now, we're re-opening submissions to this group to members to revise their original messages ahead of the 2013 inauguration, where Obama will be sworn in and given four more years to improve upon his legacy.

Here's how to participate: Hold up your message to the camera and tell the world in a variety of creative ways what you'd like to say to Obama.

We know this group has been used for other campaigns, tributes and criticisms of US/Whitehouse policy, so we'll be keeping a close eye on submissions. The best way to be included in our project is to be civil.

Thanks for your participation.

Group Rules

This is important. Please read before joining!

This group is ONLY for pictures of people's personal messages to the president-elect. As you can see, there are already lots of pics in the pool of people showing their messages to Obama.

Like this:
Street Corners for You. (EXPLORE!) by confidence, comely.

or this:
message for obama by happeningfish

or this:
dear obama, by jamie.park

That's what we're after.

Unfortunately, this means that any pics which AREN'T personal messages will be removed from the pool.

There are loads of other places on Flickr where you can post pictures of Obama, the election, voting and so on, but this group is not for them. Sorry.

Here's how you can get involved:
1. Write your message on a bit of paper (or an envelope, or a post-it-note, or a napkin, or your hand...or anything at all) - write it clearly so we can read it
2. Take a picture(even the crappest camphone or photobooth/isight shot will do)
3. Add it to the group.

Got it? Yes? Good. Let's get on with it.

PS if you persistently remove and reinsert your picture into the group pool in order to keep it on the front page, it will be removed altogether. Be nice.
