Letter from the State of Maryland

Ms. McGovern:
Your correspondence regarding the future plans for the Henryton Center has been forwarded to me for response.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has requested that the land that the Henryton Center sits on be turned over to DNR for inclusion in the Patapsco Valley State Park. DNR has also requested that the buildings be demolished, the rubble removed, and the land returned to its natural state prior to turning the property over to DNR.
The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the current owner of the property, has requested funds to demolish the buildings and remove the rubble; but the current economic condition does not make it likely that the State will have sufficient funds to complete this project in the near future. Given the uncertainty of the economic future, it is impossible to predict when funding will be available.

I am sorry that I cannot give you a definite timetable to complete this work.

Thank you for your interest in the Henryton Center. If you have any further questions, you can contact me at the number below.

Sincerely,
Larry McAvoy

I went there just yesterday, took hundreds of pictures. The place is in terrible condition though. Its a shame it has to go. I for one will miss it.

From a recent news article: The Maryland Department of General Services schedule shows that the building should be demolished in May 2014, according to testimony from the FY13 capital budget proposal. The completion date is anticipated to be May 2015, according to the testimony from the Maryland Department of Mental Health and Hygiene.
