Charters?

Nige's Place PRO 10:39pm, 5 November 2012
What is the meaning of the word 'charter' in the group's intro. My understanding of the word is a main line steam service which was not in the official timetable. Many images in the group don't fullfil this criteria.

Can I have some clarity please.

Thanks

also, the main culprit, has scanned his pics mostly from published books too, it shows in the pics all to clearly on an HD monitor. I can even dig out the same pics in books from my book cupboard.

Hi both of you, originally I set this group up for main line steam charters, to replace one I had on fotopic which went when fotopic went bust. It seems to have broadend to include scheduled trains before the end of steam. What does everyone else think, should it just be a charter group?

Ashley

PS I should add I never thought for a second the photos were scanned from books, which was part of the reason I left them in. I assumed they were taken by the person submitting them.

Just re-reading the only rule I put in it does seem to go against it. Perhaps another group should be set up for scheduled trains hauled by steam (might need a more catchy title!).

As an occasional poster nd slightly more regular viewer I enjpoy the old pictures. If we just allowed in the engines that have been on the mainlkine since 1968, the field is a lot narrower. Speaking personally, I think it would be a shame to lose the old ones.

There is a group for pre 1968 steam www.flickr.com/groups/1656396@N25/pool/ that was coming along until it got spammed with 130 plus images from the one poster.

As for the scanned from books point, I noticed this myself, they are mostly from the fomer Janes/Ian Allan books (steam and diesel ones) from a decade or more back, also those large format books (Ian Allan again) ones by Collin Boocock. On an HD large monitor they look like a book page, made up of dots etc.

Thanks for that Les, seems a good group to cover that side of things. I am leaning towards returning the group to just photos of charters, I know it narrows the field for submissions somewhat but I never set it up hoping for millions of photos in it, just somewhere for main line steam charters as there did not seem to be a flickr group for that. Will wait a couple of days so see if anyone else has a view!

OK everyone I have decided to return this group to what my original intention was which is for main line steam charters, charters from any era, in any country as long as they are steam hauled and not timetabled regular services.

Many thanks Ashley
